The Secret of Mercury (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan

This work was commissioned by the concert band Da Capo Leeuwarden from the Netherlands, which was linked with the Dutch postal service PTT up until 1995. Mercury happens to be the messenger of the gods, a kind of mailman, one could say. Yet the composer did not choose the god but the planet Mercury as his source of inspiration for this work in four uninterrupted movements. He created a multifaceted work in which the mysterious celestial body is represented, as well as a number of space missions exploring it. This interesting subject matter guarantees a composition that fascinates from start to finish. Duration: 12.15

The Secrets of McDougal's Cave

Inspired by the well-known cave on the Mississippi River that Mark Twain wrote about in his famous book "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". This cave has been the site of many adventures and has held many interesting secrets Alternating between a hauntingly lyrical slow section and a driving, syncopated ostinato, this creative work provides an excellent opportunity for you to introduce simple changing meter to your ensemble while the "mysterious and modal!" melodic lines and syncopated rhythms create an outstanding musical framework for a piece which creates the illusion that its more difficult than it really is. Great teaching tool and outstanding contest or concert selection. Very highly recommended!

The Seminar Hymn Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

This flexible piece in 4 parts was written by Jacob de Haan as a 'theme tune' for the Yamaha teaching method seminars in Germany. The solemn and dignified hymn-like melody will add a touch ofgrandeur to any performance. Its simplicity and rich harmonies suggest overtones of Land of Hope and Glory and this would be a good item to bring a deep and uplifting sense of occasion to your concert. 0:02:15

The Seventh Day

Based on the hymn tune "My Shepherd Shall Supply My Need", this fantasia is a musical reflection of the biblical account of The Creation. A powerful programmatic piece that opens with the woodwind choir and as the piece develops the mood shifts to excitement and a feeling of exhilaration. The tension and musical drama is brought to a conclusion only in the last measure as the climax is suspended for a long electric moment with the decay of a single chime tone. Without a doubt this is David Shaffer's most aggressive work to date. Highly Recommended.

The Seventh Night of July (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sakai, Itaru

In Japan, July the 7th is a holiday known as Tanabata, for which large celebrations are held throughout the country. The holiday is based on a legend about a young man and a young woman who are separated by the Milky Way and can only see each other once a year on this night. The Seventh Night of July is Itaru Sakai's musical interpretation of this romantic legend. The alto saxophone and euphonium solos during the middle movement represent the two main themes from the legend.Duration: 8:40

In the final days of November, as the nights grew longer and the vicious North winds began to pound the embattled city, the kingdom was rapidly nearing its darkest hour. As enemy forces threatened from every side, the exhausted council gathered in the great hall for one final desperate meeting. With all hope waning, with all other options exhausted, and with one last chance to save his people, the king summoned all remaining forces and invoked The Seventh Resolution. The success of Bill Whelan's Riverdance evolved from a concept for music and dance that he established earlier with The Seville Suite, his first major orchestral composition. The Seville Suite was commissioned for Ireland's National Day at the World Expo 1992 in Seville, Spain. Through the score, Whelan tells the story of legendary Irish war hero Red Hugh O'Donnell. At a mere 21 years of age, O'Donnell successfully led a rebellion against the English government in 1593. Johan de Meij's arrangement is an adaptation featuring highlights from the original suite.
