The suite opens with the lighthearted 6/8 setting "Punxsutawny Phil." Next is "Moravian Hymn Variants" which is solemn and rich-sounding, but with a brief spirited middle variation. "Independence Hall" concludes this well-written work in a stately and majestic style.Duration: 7:30

This unique work features three original song settings which were inspired by three poems written by an obscure Scottish poet. Images of a fickle bonnie lass, monsters in the mist and the banks of Loch Ness are conjured up in the poems and are beautifully interpreted in the music. Simple rhythms, easy instrument ranges and lilting Scottish-style melodies make this piece highly accessible to maturing players. A great addition to any concert, any time of the year. Three Sisters (Dream Sequence) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul

Three Sisters is a 1970 British drama film starring Alan Bates, Laurence Olivier and Joan Plowright, based on the 1900 play by Anton Chekhov. Olivier also directed, with co-director John Sichel; it was the final feature film directed by Olivier. The film was based on a 1967 theatre production that Olivier had directed at the Royal National Theatre. William Walton produced the film music using themes by Tchaikovsky, from the official national anthem of the Russian Empire in 1833 - 1917, God save the Tsar!, (the music of which is also included in several hymnals as 'God, the Omnipotent'), and which he featured in his 1812 Overture, to a charming imitation Swan Lake waltz. The original theme for Three Sisters has reappeared as contemporary stage plays and musicals, which are still active today. This short, descriptive arrangement offers an accessible opportunity for bands to experience tuneful music of the period.

Three Spanish Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul

These characteristic and expressive dances are written for solo oboe or solo clarinet. (A creative approach might be to include a dialogue between the two instruments.) The solo parts are of medium difficulty, with an extended cadenza in the first movement. The harp part (or electronic keyboard or piano) is important, but the work may be performed successfully without harp. The suite may be performed as a set or as individual pieces. This is a delightful showcase for the soloist(s), and holds great audience appeal with the typical Spanish rhythms.
