Symphony No. 2 - Views of Edo (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco

Edo is the ancient name for the city of Tokyo. Inspired by a series of woodcuts by the artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) entitled "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", Cesarini's symphony is based upon a few traditional Japanese melodies. The composition is divided into five movements in arch form: a structure in which the individual sections are arranged symmetrically around a centre. Each movement takes its title from a print from the "One Hundred Views".

Schuberts delightful 5th Symphony in Bb major, written in 1816, is a miniature, perhaps avoiding comparison with Beethovens 5th, written just 10 years earlier. Schuberts Great was to come later. Johnson, Stuart has taken the theme from the 2nd movement, Andante con moto, and brought this gem within the reach of technically less advanced players without diminishing the musical quality.

Symphony No. 9, from the New World (Finale) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Dvorak, Antonin - Harnsberger, L. C.

This surprisingly accurate, yet playable Dvor?k transcription will enhance any program. Great pains were taken to keep this transcription pure, and the result is a wonderfully written version of one of the orchestral repertoire's most popularly performed pieces. To further enhance the performance experience, the key has been changed from E minor to the more band-friendly key of F minor. The Swiss composer Franco Cesarini has waited a long time to write his first symphony and after years of considering and drafting, this Archangels Symphony, Symphony nr. 1 is a vast composition consisting of highly dramatic language, intense thematic developments and frequent polyphonic elaborations. The thematic material is taken from old Gregorian melodies that form the basis for the entire work, which is, despite the title, a non-programmatic work. It consists out of 4 movements: Gabriel, the gentle archangel; the supreme healer Raphael; the energetic archangel Michael, the Prince of the heavenly host; and surprisingly the archangel Urile, the 'forgotten' archangel. A true masterpiece and a fantastic musical challenge!Duration: 31:20

The Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 1 Theme is designed to give your best players an opportunity to play a solo with band accompaniment. This solo is the same one that appears on page 36, book 1 of The Yamaha Advantage for oboe, bassoon, alto clarinet, tenor saxophone and horn. This arrangement also includes solo parts for Flute, Clarinet and Alto Saxophone. This piece can also be performed by band alone.

Symphony No.1, Finale from (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brahms, Johannes - Johnson, Timothy

Brahms was known to be extremely careful when composing his music. When he decided to compose a symphony he wanted to be sure to exceed the standard that had been set by Beethoven. His first symphony, completed in 1876 when he was 43 years old, took several years to complete because of his attention to detail. This arrangement of the theme from the finale highlight the long, flowing nature of Brahms' melodies. A real treat for any band.Duration: 2.15
