General Sherman - Marc Jeanbourquin

General Sherman is a giant sequoia situated in the Sequoia National Park, in California. The naturalist James Wolverton named it in homage to the famous American general William Tecumseh Sherman. The impressive character of this sequoia inspired the composer, but the introduction could also evoke General Sherman arriving in the distance. Marc Jeanbourquin imagined how this giant could be in all its grandeur, attempting to climb into the foliage to find the light that filters from the top. But energetic passages indicate that the presence of the general is never far. The work concludes with a reminiscence of the initial theme, full of mystery.

Generations Fanfare - Otto M. Schwarz

Generations Fanfare was written in a film-musical style on commission for the Bezirksblasmusikverband (Wind Music Federation) Imst in Tirol, Austria. The composer, Otto M. Schwarz, composed this grade 3-4 standard piece in an attempt to make his film-musical language accessible to concert bands. In the distance trumpets and percussion make their melodic entrance, followed by the whole band. This opening piece is appropriate for every festive occasion.

Generosity - Matthew N. Putnam

Generosity is an original march in standard form, but written with developing players in mind. It is reminiscent of the wonderful marches of Bennett or King, with tuneful melodies, interesting harmonies, and a few chromatic twists thrown in to make it more exciting. Mathew Putnam has written a perfect vehicle to teach the march style and form to developing players.
