Lanigan's Ball - Ed Kiefer

Irish music is always interesting to composers and band musicians. It fits well with a concert band and is fun to play. Ed Kiefer starts with a solo clarinet on the jig Lanigan's Ball that builds and builds to a dramatic presentation of the folk song, before leading a section of repose based on the song Binnorie. The percussion is highlighted in a build-up to the climax where the tunes are combined for a dramatic conclusion.

Lansing State Journal - John Moss

Commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Lansing State Journal newspaper, this marvelous symphonic march was premiered by the Michigan State University Wind Symphony in November 2005, conducted by John Whitwell. In combining elements of our country's rich march history with his own blend of contemporary harmonies and masterful orchestrational techniques, John Moss has created an impressive work destined to become a staple in the repertoire of enduring concert marches.

Laredo Variations - Richard Summers

Based on Streets of Laredo, the popular cowboy ballad from the American West, composer Richard Summers has crafted a delightful set of variations. After a bold fanfare introduction, the theme is stated in a lush chorale setting. The piece then goes through several variations that utilize the theme in unique rhythmic and harmonic ways.
