Labyrinth - Carter Pann

Composed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Karel Husa's iconic Music for Prague 1968, LABYRINTH is an expansive, expressive four-movement work of symphonic weight and scope. Polyphonic webs of searching melody coalesce into enveloping tapestries of sound as the piece unfolds. Pann describes the epic final movement as "a gargantuan crescendo like the last movement of Respighi's The Pines of Rome or Ravel's Bolero [that] should leave the audience and players sonically drenched by the end." LABYRINTH is an enthralling experience for ensembles and listeners alike, and one that will linger with them long after the last chord fades from the concert hall.

Labyrinth - William Himes

The term labyrinth refers to an intricate and confusing maze of pathways. In similar fashion, William Himes' somewhat devious, yet delightful musical representation takes the listener (and performer) on a journey of increasingcomplexity and musical twists and turns before ultimately revealing the familiar path leading to the exit. Composed using a single tempo, Labyrinth offers a unique and effective setting for band. Dur: 3:20

Ladies in Lavender - Nigel Hess

Set in a picturesque coastal Cornwall, in a tight-knit fishing village in the 1930s, Ladies in Lavender starred Judi Dench and Maggie Smith as sisters Ursula and Janet Widdington. A young Polish violinist from Krakow, Andrea, is swept overboard froma ship bound for America. When the sisters discover the handsome stranger on the beach below their house, they nurse him back to health. However, the presence of the musically talented young man disrupts the peaceful lives of both Ursula and Janet,and the community in which they live. This arrangement of the much-loved theme from the film has been arranged for wind band.
