Alliance of the Free - James L. Hosay

For the opening ceremony of the fiftieth anniversary of NATO, James L. Hosay was commissioned to write a special march. The heads of state of all member states of NATO were present at this event. According to instructions, the march had to be a combination of marches in American, Western European and Eastern European style. This way, a concert march was written to outline the history of the greatest alliance ever of countries working together. Now your band and audience can experience this piece of world history in a tribute to the Alliance of the Free!

Alligator Alley - Michael Daugherty

(2003) Award-winning composer Michael Daugherty's first published work for young band describes a stretch of Interstate 75 that crosses through Florida's Everglades National Park. Alligator Alley celebrates this noble beast that has remained largely unchanged from prehistoric times. The first theme (Alligator's Theme) features the woodwinds (predominantly bassoons) while the second theme (Hunter's Theme) is performed by the brass. Program notes and staging suggestions are included in this marvelously descriptive work. Along an English Countryside - Richard L. Saucedo

Composed in 12/8 and entirely in one energetic tempo, this masterful work is a musical tribute to the late Sir Malcolm Arnold, one of the most notable English composers of our time. The opening section features a variety of shortsolo statements of the theme, which then leads to well-timed and impressive declarations from the entire ensemble. Within in the confines of this brief yet impressive work, Richard manages to skillfully capture feelings of bothseriousness and playfulness. Along an English Countryside is wonderful as a program opener for festival or contest.
