This work was commissioned by the University of Kansas to celebrate the Inauguration of the 16th chancellor, Dr. Robert Hemenway. It opens with bold fanfares that lead into a bright scherzo section, which is followed by a traditional processional. The entire work culminates with a return of the fanfares and a rousing, fast-paced finale.

Celebration for Band - John Brakstad

Many Norwegian bands have grown up around factories, but Norwegian factories are often located in the countrysides - by a fjord or lake, by a river or waterfall that provided power for the factory. The factory was the foundation for the existence of the community, but it was also essential for the community's cultural life, choirs, bands etc. (cp. British brass bands and mining). "Celebration for band" tries to give a picture of the environment and life around a band like this, with both factory noise and the natural world (Pastorale), as well as the challenges and development of the band itself. The composition is built up of five connected episodes: - Fanfare and Prologue (concludes with a feeling of the untamed power of the river) - Pastorale I: " At the river" - Intermezzo: " The Factory" (starts with the opening of water for the turbines: snare drum. Factory whistle and bell call to work, and the spinning and weaving machinery starts up.) - Pastorale II: " Summer evening on the fjord." - Finale: " Challenge and Progress"

Here's an upbeat piece that evokes a sense of positivity and hope. It is a bit majestic and joyful all at the same time. It is an easy piece, and it is a great composition to introduce dotted rhythms. Only the 1st clarinet crosses the break, and the 1st trumpet's highest note is D.

To capture the spririt of this fine young person, Curnow uses excerpts from the Saint-Saens 'Organ Symphony' in three contrasting variations, An imaginative piece that is inspirational for both players and audiences alike.

Celebration Overture - Darren W. Jenkins

Celebration Overture is a work meant to reflect a celebration of life and all of the wonderful and positive events we are fortunate enough to experience. The piece combines a majestic brass fanfare with musically expressive themes for a real celebration in sound. Effective scoring allows all sections to contribute important lyric material before returning to the allegro brillante tempo and another rousing fanfare to bring the work to a dramatic conclusion.
