Three Miniatures for Winds and Percussion - Robert Sheldon

Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening and live each day as if it were your last. This famous poem has many versions and is attributed to several authors, yet its simple, eloquent message speaks volumes to millions of people worldwide. The composition therefore has a first movement entitled "Joyful Dance," the second movement is "Simple Song," and the final movement is a "Celebration." Each movement is quite brief but distinctly different, each expressing the feelings inherent in the poem from which the work was drawn. (5:15) This title is available in SmartMusic.

Three Minutes to Midnight - Jarod Hall

It's a race against the clock in this unique musical countdown that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats. Three Minutes to Midnight includes moments of eerie apprehension, which increase in tension as they build into heavy, raucous statements with great intensity. The Dies Irae theme pops in and out of the texture, introducing a sinister motif that indicates something much darker. Unique and colorful, this work exemplifies the creative genius of composer JaRod Hall!

Three Onegin Dances - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky is best known for his purely instrumental compositions. However, we must not underestimate him as a composer of operas. Many of his operas such as Pique Dame and Eugene Onegin are still performed regularly throughout the world. Eugene Onegin (also called Jevgeny Onegin), composed in 1877-1878, was not called an opera by Tchaikovsky himself, but "lyric scenes". The work is entirely dominated by lyricism. However, there are two moments that contrast sharply with this lyricism: two ball scenes, for which Tchaikovsky wrote a waltz and a polonaise. After opening with a less well-known allegro dansant, this arrangement features the aforementioned waltz, which can beconsidered a beautiful Russian equivalent of the Faust Waltz by Charles Gounod. In the opera, this waltz is actually played by a military band. The arrangement concludes with the pompous polonaise (also mentioned above) which opens the last act: the ideal music to characterize high aristocracy in the salon of a palace in St. Petersburg.
