Kilauea - Brian Balmages
Simple aleatoric passages help recreate the effect of an erupting volcano in this powerful yet extremely playable composition. Using bass drum to suggest the groaning of the volcano, the lyrical opening foreshadows the wildness of the eruption, and in transition, students play any notes and rhythms desired. As the lava begins to flow, a cacophonous ostinato appears over a menacing theme in the trumpets and low voices. In addition to the regular part, an optional advanced snare drum part is included for accomplished percussionists. The combination of styles along with exciting new sounds for young band make this a must for your next concert! (2:40)

The enchanting town of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland, has been an inspiration to many artists, saints, and scholars over many centuries. It lies in the heart of the beautiful Killarney National Park, and near Ireland's highest mountains. There are many places of interest to be found in Killarney and the surrounding area such as churches and other historical buildings, as well as a varied landscape with waterfalls, lovely valleys, and gorgeous lakes. The town also has many great restaurants, nice crafts shops and lively pubs where traditional Irish music is often heard. Killing Me Softly with His Song - C. Fox
The tender ballad Killing Me Softly with His Song was written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel in 1971, for de American singer Lori Lieberman. She was very impressed with a performance by the then still unknown Don McLean in the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The feelings described in the lyrics are indeed those of Lieberman, but the one who - two years later - made the song world-famous was Roberta Flack. Her version won as many as three Grammy Awards. Since then, Killing Me Softly has been performed by numerous artists, including Herb Alpert, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Anne Murray, Luther Vandross, and the Fugees.

Kinder Legende (Knecht Ruprecht) - Robert Schumann
Heres an absolutely delightful transcription from Schumanns popular Album for the Young. The music playfully describes Knecht Ruprecht, the dreaded legendary character that helped St. Nicholas deliver coal to the naughty children at Christmas.
