Traveler

David Maslanka's Traveler, for Symphonic Wind ensemble, was commissioned in 2003 by the University of Texas at Arlington Band Alumni Association, the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, in honor of the career contributions of Ray C. Lichtenwalter, retiring Director of bands at UT Arlington. Maslanka writes, "Ray has been a close friend and champion of my music for many years, and it was a great pleasure for me to write this piece for his final concert. The idea for Traveler came from the feeling of a big life movement as I contemplated my friend's retirement." Carl Fischer Music is excited to offer this beautifully contemplative piece in a study score format.

Tropanka and Patsh Tantz

This two-movement work is sure to be a hit at your next concert! The first movement, Tropanka (pronounced "tro-PAHN-kuh"), translates as "stomping dance" and originated in Bulgaria. One can hear two repeated notes at the end of each phrase - this is where the dancers stomp! The second movement, Patsh Tantz (pronounced "PAHTSH tahnts") is a classic example of Klezmer, or Eastern European Jewish folk music. The title of this movement is Yiddish for "clapping dance", and all the players get the chance to clap at certain points in their individual parts. Both movements should be played rhythmically; adding weight to many of the downbeats will help bring out the "earthy" character of the music.

Tropical Chase

In Tropical Chase, the music takes you on an adventurous journey through the exotic islands of the Galapagos. Set in Eb major, the piece features energetic rhythms and vivid percussion, creating a sense of excitement and danger. Through varied articulations and dynamic changes, the chase builds tension and thrills, offering an exhilarating experience for the performers and the audience.

Tropical Winds

Take your beginning band to a tropical island! Using simple patterns based on Caribbean rhythms, this is an excellent lighter selection for your spring concerts. Low instruments are featured in the middle section, but all sections get a chance to perform the melody. Develop breathing and phrasing technique while also introducing students to easy and fun Latin rhythms.

Trumpet Stars

Trumpet Starsfeatures young trumpet sections as "stars" in this rewarding piece. Andrew Balent has composed this to help to reinforce basic eighth-note rhythms as well as articulation and ensemble balance between the trumpets and the rest of the band.
