Traveler

David Maslanka's Traveler, for Symphonic Wind ensemble, was commissioned in 2003 by the University of Texas at Arlington Band Alumni Association, the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, in honor of the career contributions of Ray C. Lichtenwalter, retiring Director of bands at UT Arlington. Maslanka writes, "Ray has been a close friend and champion of my music for many years, and it was a great pleasure for me to write this piece for his final concert. The idea for Traveler came from the feeling of a big life movement as I contemplated my friend's retirement." Carl Fischer Music is excited to make this beautifully contemplative piece available to wind ensembles everywhere.

Trek to the Summit

Trek to the Summit takes all who listen on a journey to the top of the mountain. From the grand opening fanfare to the softer lyrical passage, this piece captures the excitement, confidence, and also moments of quiet reflection inspired by a long mountain trek. You will have the opportunity to reinforce dynamics, phrasing, and tone with your students. This work is a great concert piece for celebrating how far your students have come.

This is a dramatic concert opener or closer. Exciting percussion, hand claps and foot stomps are very effective in creating a celebratory feeling in this evocative work. Set at a bright tempo, it is intense to the point of being electrifying!

Trombonanza

Written in the style of the many trombone features from the prolific pen of Henry Fillmore, this is a winning selection for featuring the low brass of the young ensemble. It includes ample use of the trombone glissando (colloquially referred to as a smear). The march-like character and simple tunefulness of the work are sure to make it a hit with the band and an audience favorite as well.
