The Rocky Road to Dublin

Getting to the heart of leaving home to seek a better life, this mid-19th century Irish folk song is given an authentic yet unique treatment in a setting for younger bands. Starting with a lilting upper woodwind melody with hand percussion, an expressive legato section follows before a return to the original material. Percussionists have several soli sections where they get a chance to shine. A brisk tempo, well-written percussion parts, and plenty of dynamic contrasts make this an excellent choice for concert and festival performances.

The Silence after Thunder

The Silence after Thunder captures the emotional aftermath of a battle, where the sounds of war give way to a haunting silence. The piece opens with intense trumpet fanfares, building to a chaotic clash of forces. As the battle subsides, the music shifts to a somber, quiet reflection, leaving the listener with a sense of desolation and the eerie stillness following a storm.

The Snake Pit

Everyone remembers the first time that they saw a snake. Though fascinating to some and terrifying to others, few animals are as universally mesmerizing. Composer Tyler Arcari has crafted a very fun piece making use ofauxiliary percussion instruments to emulate a snake's hiss or ominous rattle. With very strong and interesting melodic material, and scored to make a developing band sound great, this piece is sure to be a favorite among students.

The Spirit of an Eagle

This is one of Larry Clark's most successful and performed pieces. It is a standard overture with a glorious slower B section, and is already on the required music lists for many states (including Texas and Florida). Now it can be performed by a band with instrumentation problems in this new flexible scoring edition. As few as five players and percussion can perform a full-sounding version of this wonderful work. To prove it, we recorded an excerpted version of the piece where we did just that.
