Speedbird

Speedbird was written to commemorate the trip my wife and I took to Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, to adopt our daughter. We flew on British Airways, which uses the radio call sign "Speedbird" to identify their planes all over the world.

Spiders NOPE!

"Spiders? Nope!" brings people's fears of the eight-legged arachnid to life with its creepy, crawly rhythm, hair-raising dissonances, and staccato movement.Trumpet's highest note is D. Clarinets do not cross the break.

Spirit of the Warrior

Dedicated to all soldiers and warriors, past and present, this beginning band piece uses only the first 6 notes of the concert Bb scale. Beginning boldly with separated notes in the low brass and winds, the higher woodwinds soon enter with a legato countermelody. Percussion includes vibraslap and gong for additional interest. Use this composition to work on balance, listening between sections, and articulation skills. An excellent choice to inspire beginning students to achieve their best.

Spring Unfolding celebrates the possibilities of new life, as trees and growing plants follow the light and green emerges to cover the remains of winter. The piece begins with a contemplative opening before diving into a liltingly tuneful 3/4 melody. Delightfully unique, this piece is perfect for beginners.

Stand Tall In Changing Times - Roger Cichy

Based on the idea of the purpose of education and how it prepares students for life, this work starts with a stately fanfare style opening. The composition has contrasting melodies and rich harmonies. 1st trumpet's highest notes is a C. Only the 1st clarinet plays over the break.

Starbound Artemis - Joshua Idio

Starbound Artemis is an exciting depiction of a spaceship being prepared for take-off. In musical cinematic fashion, this work for young band follows the same steps of a typical rocket launch sequence, from transporting the vessel to the launchpad, powering up and fueling the machine, to the final flight tests, and then lift-off. Using simple, interchanging harmonies from both the B-flat major and minor keys, the music gives the work a steady surge of tension, seriousness, and power, as astronauts and technicians might feel as they prepare to launch a rocket into space.

Starliner

Inspired by NASA's Starliner, this composition offers players interesting, yet easy, melodic material and countermelodies that will let your students work on phrasing and balance while still having fun. Short percussion solos and an emphasis on developing low brass and woodwinds make this an excellent concert opener or contest selection

Start Your Engines

Start Your Engines plays homage to the iconic phrase "Gentlemen, start your engines," traditionally used at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This exciting concert selection for young band features the percussion section with opportunities for doubling parts if needed. The band "revs up" right at the beginning as the opposing eighth notes in the drums evoke a race car engine at the starting line. As the piece continues, the winds have opportunities to shine in comfortable ranges with reasonable technical demands. Start Your Engines is great for helping young bands sound their best at concert and beyond.
