The Air and Light of Aether

The Airships

The Airships floats just like the aircrafts the piece is named after, inspired by composer George Sweet's childhood love of fantasy and adventure novels. Bold and strident, the dramatic ending of The Airships will inspire great confidence in your students.

The Anguish of Nosferatu

Very programmatic and haunting, this composition should prove a good change of pace for your next festival or concert. Although this piece may seem a little rhythmically complex, it has a natural flow. The harmonies often move in tri-tones which lends a bit of a horror feel to the piece. Challenging, dark, and intense, your students and audiences will find themselves transformed by the Anguish of the Nosferatu.

The Awakening

The Awakening begins with a gentle clarinet theme, gradually growing in intensity to represent the gradual transition from night to day. The early sections of the piece evoke a quiet morning, with the ensemble coming to life as the music shifts to a more playful and energetic 6/8 section. Attention to dynamics and articulation brings the awakening process to life, creating a vivid musical picture of a new day.

The Bold Brigade

This beginning level march-like piece, using only the first 6 notes learned, portrays the confident spirit of military troops working together. The Brave Warrior

Starting robust and full, this fast-paced concert and contest composition uses ostinatos with contrasting long melodic phrases and woodwind versus brass sections to develop listening and balance skills. The Cauldron

The Cauldron explores the transformation of an ancient ritual, combining dark harmonies with intense, swirling rhythms. The piece begins with eerie simmering sounds, building tension through percussion and brass. As the piece progresses, the music becomes more fiery and dramatic, evoking images of magic and ritual. The Class Clown
