Procession of the Academics

Proclamation

Proclamation is a musical representation of an official announcement, starting with a bold statement and followed by a repeated, ornamented version of the theme. A chorale section provides contrast, and a percussion fanfare leads back to the return of the main statement. This piece is a great way to teach contrast, phrasing, and rhythmic precision, making it a perfect choice for both festival and contest settings.

Promise on the Horizon

Composed about the possibilities for greatness that lie within each day, this concert fanfare starts inquisitively before moving to a musical reminder of the challenges we all face daily. Reinforcing several basic 6/8 rhythmic patterns that performers need to learn, this piece also offers development opportunities for articulation accuracy while playing in a light, precise style. Listening for melodic elements and balance will also be improved. Use this to start your next concert in an uplifting way and as a meaningful opportunity to discuss the power of making positive choices.

Promised Land

Promised Land is a serious-sounding, new piece for the developing band that sounds much more difficult than it plays, allowing your students to show off while remaining at their ability level. The title has its roots in the ideals of John Humphrey Noyes, who founded the Oneida community in the late 1840s. He built a thriving agricultural and spiritual community that became his "promised land." The music depicts the struggles and triumph of those first settlers in the area, who worked the land and fought for their ideals through much persecution. Promised Land contains all of the rhythmic interest and memorable motives that Sean's music is so known for. It is also an excellent choice for contest/festival.
