Polar Vortex

The Polar Vortex is the mass of extremely cold air situated over each of the earth's poles. Occasionally the vortex slips away from the polar region bringing unusually cold air to areas away from the pole. Polar Vortex is a depiction of a winter storm inspired by the poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The Snow-Storm." It is a rhapsodic piece with many contrasting moments, styles, tempos, and colors of sound. A sophisticated new work from composer Gene Milford.

Pop! Pop! Pop! - Traditional

Players and audiences alike will enjoy this familiar and jaunty tune. In this new arrangement of Pop Goes the Weasel by Andrew Balent, students will learn how to perform and master basic 3/4 rhythms. Band directors are encouraged to begin rehearsing at a slow tempo and gradually increase the speed as their students improve. This playful piece is sure to be a hit among students while also improving their musicianship.

Popocatepetl

This suite of three short movements depicts Popcatepetl, a dormant volcano in Mexico. Useful for developing understanding of this form, the composition includes overture, ballad, and Latin styles. Opportunities abound for teaching the concepts of dynamic contrast, balance between sections, and rhythmic development. There are several short solos, but most of the composition works on the development of full-ensemble skills. Although the movements can be performed as stand-alone selections, the entire suite is less than 6 minutes in length.

Portrait in Rhythm - Gary Fagan

Portrait in Rhythmis a study in various rhythmic moods that will challenge students to stay on their toes and concentrate on rhythmic accuracy.Veteran composer Gary Fagan has written a wonderfully tuneful composition that skillfully uses ever changing rhythm without sacrificing a melodic sensibility.

A medley of American folksongs: Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie, Skip To My Lou, Wait For The Wagon, The Streets of Lorado, The Yellow Rose of Texas. 1st trumpet's highest note is E (in the staff).

Power - Harold Bennett

This is one of Harold Bennett's (pseudonym of Henry Fillmore) lesser-known marches, but that is no indication of its quality. It is a 6/8 march in standard march form but what is unique about this classic from the original Bennett Band Book is that it is one of the few Bennett marches that includes a "break strain." This makes it a great introduction for younger students to prepare them to play the more challenging marches of Fillmore, Sousa, and others.

Power Of The Redstone

"Power of the Redstone is dramatic, exciting, and, most of all, it is fun to play! While I have written the piece in g minor, I have thrown in some diminished 7 chords and added some v chords for extraordinary sounds and novelty that students (and teachers who are tired of hearing I-iv-v-I over and over) are sure to latch on to and enjoy. The ranges on all of the instruments are well within the grade level of the piece, with Trumpet 1 going as high as 4th line D (just a couple of times), flute going no higher than their "C" and Trombone hitting their high E-flat one time.
