Pelican Dance

Quirky, fun, and not too serious, this dance-like composition was inspired by the composer noticing pelicans on his way to work! The opening motif played by the entire ensemble in the first measure is fundamental for the entire work. Stated in some form at the beginning of each musical section, it even appears as a bass line in the composition. Performed at one tempo throughout, this piece emphasizes essential dynamic contrasts and the various ways a theme can be developed in a composition. Percussion drives the energy of the composition, allowing your players to develop their skills on hand percussion. Enjoy the dance!

Phantasm

Phantom Echo

Phantom Echo is intriguing and unique, but retains the signature style that you and your students have come to love from composer Larry Clark. This piece plays on the echo-effect with a great deal of interplay between woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Interesting music for younger students with lots of teaching opportunities.

Phantom Miners

Phantom Miners takes the listener to the ghost towns of the American Southwest, where abandoned mining towns echo with the sounds of long-dead miners still toiling in the earth. The piece is full of eerie, atmospheric sounds, with auxiliary percussion creating chilling effects to mimic ghostly activities. The dramatic shifts between harsh and delicate sounds reflect the desperation of the spirits who refuse to leave their work unfinished. Careful attention to dynamics and timing will help convey the unsettling, spectral world of the Phantom Miners.

This is a clever medley of classical favorites that kicks off with a grandiose setting of the opening of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, continues with excerpts from Johann Strauss' beloved Blue Danube Waltz and the opening theme of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and concludes with the rollicking Can-Can from Gait Parisienne. Written as a commission for the Georgia District 10 Honor Band, Larry Clark has drawn on the history of the coast of Georgia where the pirate Blackbeard was thought to have stashed his treasure.
