Call of the Ancient Clans - Amy Webb

This piece takes players back to ancient times, when neighboring tribes would communicate by way of rhythm instruments. With an interesting, pulsating rhythm and catchy woodwind lines, the engaging music gives students the opportunity to create fun musical moments. Notes generally fall within the first year range, but also provide a good challenge with first clarinets going over the break a few times. Callisto

A winning and moderately easy concert piece that takes its name from one of the moons of Jupiter, Callisto is a vibrantly scored set of two variations on a fragment of a theme from the Jupiter movement of Gustav Holst's orchestral suite, The Planets. The characteristic flatted-7th of much English folk music is retained in both the quick opening section and the slow, reflective variation that forms the B section of this clever and appealing overture-style piece.

Written to celebrate the "Camelia City" (Quitman, Georgia), this traditional style march is written in the style of Henry Fillmore. Starting with a light, happy woodwind melody with simple flourishes in the low brass, the march then moves through dynamic changes before a trio that features low clarinets and euphonium with a unique woodblock percussion accompaniment. Ending with a return to brass flourishes, this classic march is perfect for learning the traditional musical form.
