Big Sky March

Premiered at the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC, this march describes the beautiful mountain views that gave Asheville it's nickname, Land Of Big Sky. Written in the traditional style of Fillmore marches, the piece features exciting parts for all instruments. Flurries of woodwinds and brass flourishes depict the pageantry of the area and repeated arpeggios and chromatic scales represent each of the two ensembles who performed the piece as part of a Memorial Day celebration.

Bisbee, a small town southwest of Tucson, Arizona, is best known as the home of the Copper Queen Mine, one of the richest mineral sites in the world. Composer Doris Gazda uses here experience as a band director to give us a well constructed, tuneful and easy to play concert march.

Black lightis defined as infrared or ultraviolet light which is invisible to the naked eye. The idea of an entire spectra existing out of the range of human perception was a large influencing factor for George Sweet in the composition of this piece.Richly scored for the modern concert band,Black Light is written in a post-minimalist style and is also heavily influenced by the work of American composers Steve Reich, John Adams, and Philip Glass.

The solo part is very reasonable and sounds harder than it is (about a Grade 3.5). This is great piece for showing off that talented soloist in your ensemble.
