Ascending

It is all too common for pieces to be written for the loss of members of high school bands. This is such a piece, but it is uplifting and inspiring, serving as a touching tribute to the lives lost. The piece takes the listener on a journey through the stages of grief and uses a popular hymn as the basis for this serious work by popular composer Larry Clark.

Asian Folk Song Medley - Gerald Sebesky

This medley combines two songs, The Shepherd, from China, and Sakura, from Japan. It is very easy and a great cultural addition to your concert. Clarinets do not cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is C.

Aspirations

Aspirations is written for the youngest and least experienced of musicians, who have only had a short time on their instruments. This piece uses minimal material, including no more than two repeated eighth notes as the most difficult rhythm. It contains bold fanfare gestures, marcato melodic material, and a contrasting legato theme. Every section of the ensemble is featured in this surprisingly sophisticated, yet very attainable piece.

Aurora Eclipsed

Aurora Eclipsedwas inspired by the solar eclipse of 2017.During a solar eclipse, a beautiful and fascinating aurora forms around the moon creating an eerie outline. This "ring of fire" is actually the sun's outer edges being revealed to the human eye. The rhythmic pattern of this piece teaches students eighth note patterns, and each section has an opportunity to play the melody. The use of a variety of colors and sforzandos makes this an aggressive composition that younger students will enjoy playing.

Autumn in the Park

This light concert selection, with contrasting tonal colors and dynamics, reflects the beauty of warm days, cool nights and the vivid colors of this favorite time or year. Shared melodies between woodwinds and brass with the careful addition of percussion make this an easily prepared, yet educational and musically fulfilling, concert or festival selection at any time of the year.
