Songs from the Catskills (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
The Catskill Mountains is a beautifully preserved region in Upstate New York, flanked to the east by the Hudson River. Discovering a fascinating mix of American, Irish and Scottish folk music, ultimately, it was not easy to choose from such abundance. In the end Johan de Meij ended up using the following songs The Foggy Dew, Last Winter was a Hard One, A Poor and Foreign Stranger, The Bluestone Quarries, and The Arkansas Traveller. The music makes a side trip to The Old Tobacco Box before coming to a festive conclusion.Duration: 8:45

Shadows of the Equinox (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert
As summer ends, the chill of the autumn air awakens feelings within us. The shadows are longer in late afternoon and darkness comes early. The trees are losing their leaves and their gnarled trunks and branches take on sinister profiles against the looming twilight. We shudder at the cold wind. Our pulse quickens and we suddenly want to return to the safety and warmth of home. Night falls and we are once again at peace. We say a final farewell to the carefree days of summer and accept the relentless march of the seasons. Winter will soon be here. Duration: 5.30

They are offered as a suite, but the audio tracks have been separated to make it easier to hear each title. These lovely pieces will present a perfect exercise for band blending, balance, interpretation, intonation, and finesse, while offering your audience some of the typically gorgeous music for which John Rutter is so noted. They may be performed as a suite, or as independent pieces: 1. What Sweeter Music; 2. Blow, blow, thou winter wind; 3. Candlelight; 4. Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; 5. The Lord bless you and keep you. John Rutter's compositions are in a class by themselves, and this adaptation is sure to find its way into the repertoire of outstanding bands around the world.
