The series was started as a response to feedback from music educators that there is a pressing need for new, fresh band music. The heart of this program is new works written by a diverse group of leading American composers who have created challenging pieces that are a true departure from standard middle school repertoire. Every BandQuest project includes a residency component in which the composer works collaboratively with a middle school as they create their new piece.Many BandQuest pieces are accompanied by an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to assist students as they learn the music and to integrate each piece with non-music studies. Graham takes us first to Latin America, then to Japan, and onwards to sub- Saharan Africa. We get a gentle reprieve via a nostalgic hint of the British Isles before we land in the melting pot of all styles, the USA. In this final movement the driving swing section is abruptly stopped and a drum cadenza leads us back into the opening Latin music, with hints of the other styles as well. Described by Professor Ron Holz as "a global musical village", stylistic diversity is celebrated, and young musicians have fun while learning to master and embrace the performance practice requirements of each. The six movements 1) Amazonia 2) Rainforest 3) The Rising Sun 4) Drums of Thunder 5) Celtic Dream and 6) Earth Walk can be programmed individually.

In modern folklore the "hour of the wolf" occurs just before sunrise, at a time when you are most likely to meet any monsters lurking in the night. The idea of imminent danger and sprinting for your life from an unseen horror was quite inspiring, and terrifying, when writing this work. The music is filled with intensity and energy, with a subdued middle section as the only respite from the constant beating and pulsing throughout the piece, until it ends with a final, frantic bang. Make sure you lock your doors and windows tonight because the hour of the wolf is fast approaching!

Christmas on the Thames is a fantasy of English Christmas carols circling around the beloved melody I Saw Three Ships. It reflects the buzz of activity both on the streets of London and on board a schooner bound for port loaded with cargo and gifts. Decorations are put in the shop windows; the aroma of warm chestnuts and puddings fill the air; carolers sing; the mulled punch known as wassail is drunk. The piece culminates with the ship pulling up to the dock to the sounds of celebratory cheers and ringing church bells. Merry Christmas, guvnor!

1) 'Jour de Fte. A quiet sunday atmosphere on the Avenue Foch, a residental area for the well-to-do in Paris. It begins with full-sounding chords, with a wealth of added tones. It seems as if many bells are tolling. Birds are tweeting high in the trees. After all this there is a very simple theme without any tension just like a leisure walk. The movement ends the same way it started.2) 'Jour de Java. The 'Java' is the dance of the Bohemians, the Paris gypsies. It is a very capricious dance, which is represented by at certain moments shrill harmonies and the unexpected changes in tonality of this movement.3) 'Jour de Pluie. A rainy day. Seated behind the windows of a sidewalk caf we observe the reflections on the wet streets. Under a fly-over an accordeon plays a sad melody. Old memories pass through our minds.4) 'Jour de Can-Can. Whenever one hears 'Can-Can' the name of Jacques Offenbach crosses our minds. It is the dance of the Folies Bergres, a festival which never seems to end. All the time new solo-dancers come jumping forward.
