Harry Belafonte's masterful song about the interconnection between fire, water, mountain and spirit was performed to much acclaim on the The Muppet Show in 1977. The song, which explains that through understanding we can all "turn the world around," became a favourite of Muppet creator Jim Henson and was performed at his memorial service. Featuring an infectious African-flavored groove in 5/4, this is a unique and effective setting for band.

Since the beginning of mankind people have realized that the warmth and the light of the sun were necessary to develop life on earth - by creating winds in the air, by generating rains through the evaporation of sea water and by allowing plants to grow. The sun creates the dynamism of the chain of life. This is the reason why ancient populations adored the sun as the god of cosmic order as opposed to the god of chaos or night, who generated fear and the necessity of defense. A Thames Journey - Nigel Hess
A Thames Journey is a 10-minute work which follows the journey of the river Thames, from its origins as a few drops of water in Wiltshire to the point where it meets the open sea. Hess draws upon many musical links along the Thames, such as an old Wiltshire melody, morris dancing in Oxfordshire, boating songs from Berkshire. With such rich and diverse sources of music across several counties and centuries, this has quite understandably become one of Hess's most popular wind band works to date.

£183.20Grim - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
Grim was commissioned by Sandviken Ungdomskorps in 1998. Grim is a folkloristic pastiche, but also with a jazz-flavoured inspiration. The piece ends with the folk-music played on top of a theme from a march: "Sandvikguttenes marsj" to salute the band that commissioned the music. The title is taken from the word "grimen", a kind of troll that lives in water. He teaches fiddlers how to play if they offer him food a Thursday night in a north-faced waterfall.

Master Level (correlates with Book 2, p. 32) The uniqueness of this ethnic folk music is captured by John Moss in this masterful setting. The lively Kelvin Grove features the flutes followed by the woodwind section, and Over the Water to Charlie is a lilting 6/8 dance written with a nice variety of dynamics and textural changes.

In 1884, a locomotive tossed a spark that stated a fire that reduced the town of Milton, Pennsylvania to ashes. A majestic fanfare depicts the vibrant town with train whistles in the flutes, train bells in the chimes, whirling engines in the brass, and telegraphs in woodwinds and mallets. Growing dissonances depict the fierce firestorm that abruptly dissolves into a solemn oboe solo of the towns sadness, while paper bags and plastic water bottles represent the smoldering fire. The music then turns from sorrow to hope as small sections of the schools alma mater embed the message of hope and optimism before the rousing and triumphant coda.

Along the River was commissioned by the Wind Band Kundl in Austria to commemorate its 225th anniversary of making music and spreading joy! To add a personal touch to this composition, Hermann Pallhuber drew inspiration from the Kundler-Klamm canyon. The sights and sounds of nature particularly inspires him: the roar of the water winding its way through the canyon or the sun rising behind the mountain peaks. Breath-taking musical images will captivate your audience. All the movements in Along the River will challenge your band but reward them with a fulfilling musical journey.

£87.95A Tamworth Tapestry (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
A Tamworth Tapestry was commissioned by the Tamworth Wind Band who gave the first performance in Fazeley, Tamworth, on 27 Apr 2024. In composing it I drew on aspects of Tamworth starting with a short malicious outburst to depict the warlike history of the town's Norman castle. From there the music moves into a slow-flowing minor key movement entitled River Tame. The Celtic derivation of the word Tame means dark and slow-moving. The suite ends with a saltarello - Tomsaete. The Tomsaete were an Anglo-Saxon tribe who lived in the valley of the River Tame and remained around Tamworth throughout the duration of the Kingdom of Mercia. There is also a play on words with the band's conductor - Tom Sears. I combined the saltarello with some allusions to various other Tamworth references including Kingsbury Water Park, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth Pigs and even a reference to the Robin Reliant!Duration: 6.15
