Do not let the slow tempo concern you for programing. This is the composition the audience will be talking about long after the concert is over. It is beautiful, flowing, and a relaxing and soothing experience. Program it immediately after your "war horse" or before. The 1st trumpet's highest note is G.

In Memoriam: For the Fallen - Philip Sparke

In Memoriam: For the Fallen was commissioned by Bolsover District Council for the Bolsover Brass Summer School 2014. It is a setting for narrator and band of Laurence Binyon's (1869-1943) poem, For the Fallen, which was first published in The Times in September 1914. Binyon was dismayed at the outbreak of war and especially concerned by the large number ofcasualties suffered by the British Expeditionary Force in the early months of the battle on the Western Front. Too old to enlist, he volunteered as a hospital orderly in France. The poem is known world-wide as the famous fourth stanza (They shallgrow not old...) has become a regular part of Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day services. In Memoriam: For the Fallen is a musical accompaniment to the poem, shadowing the mood of each stanza.

    Haexdonck - Guido De Ranter

The second dissonant part with much percussion describes his time as an army chaplain during the Great War. The third hymn-like part depicts his time as a priest. The Road to Chancellorsville - Bryan Kidd

This is one to get excited about! In the style of a "patrol" march, THE ROAD TO CHANCELLORSVILLE takes us back to that pivotal point in history, the American Civil War. The Battle of Chancellorsville is regarded as Confederate General Robert E. Lee's most brilliant victory, but the cost was so high that the Secessionist forces never really recovered. They were forced to surrender less than two years later.Opening with light percussion and just two piccolos (substitute two flutes if necessary) this bright and easy march builds relentlessly from beginning to end. March into history with THE ROAD TO CHANCELLORSVILLE.

Of Courage And Patriotism - James Curnow

This is descriptive composition at its finest! The music tells the story of the battle at Fort Meigs, Ohio during the War of 1812. Revolutionary Anthem - Douglas Court

William Billings' beloved song Chester, the adopted theme of the Continental Army during America's war for independence, forms the musical core of this fine work for young bands. Great for concert or contest, this adaptation is short and sweet, but does not skimp on style or emotional impact.

    Bundeslied - Jacob de Haan

The melody of Bundeslied originates from Mozart's' Frimaurerkantate (KV62) from 1791. However research has shown evidence that it was probably composed by Johann Holzer, a freemason brother of his, but there is no definite evidence for this. Following the Second World War this melody was used as the basis for the new Austrian national anthem. Micheal Bilkes has adapted this beautiful, stately hymn for concert band. The result is a captivating work for both performers and audience.
