Talisman tells the story of the "Pierre du Serment", an event that took place in 1639 in the village of Fontenotte, on the border between France and Switzerland. Composed of three brothers and their parents, the Billot family lived peacefully on their farm despite the Thirty Years' War raging around them. When their father was captured by the Swedish mercenaries who plundered the farm, the three brothers vowed to save him, carving their pact in stone according to a Celtic and Viking tradition.Commissioned by the Orchestre d'Harmonie de Montlebon for its centenary, this work pays tribute to a local story that has become a legend. The conductor, Jean-Pierre Frigo, wanted this commission to mark the orchestra's presence within the region.

The 330-meter-tall Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Originally built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair, it was meant to symbolize the technological and industrial advancements of the 19th century. Construction began in 1887 and was completed in 1889, just in time for the fair, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Some even called for the tower to be torn down after the World's Fair.But the Eiffel Tower survived these objections and developed into a symbol not only for Paris but for all of France. Its structure was not only aesthetically significant but also practical: during World War I, it played a crucial role in radio transmission, as an antenna on its top was key to French communication. This functional use helped prevent its demolition.Today, the Eiffel Tower is a global symbol of innovation, modernity, and French culture. At major events, such as the 2024 Olympic Games, it took again center stage, attracting millions of visitors every year. Its elegance and the spectacular view from its platforms make it an unforgettable experience. Since its construction, the Eiffel Tower has welcomed more than 300 million visitors, making it one of the most visited structures in the world.

Good times and bad times - we often picture them in shades of either somber black and white or vibrant color. Beautiful landscapes, tranquil villages, places brimming with peace and harmony - yet, in an instant, they can fall prey to the flames. Joy sinks into sorrow, but with every end comes a new beginning. From the ashes, something new arises, like a phoenix reborn. This has always been the way, the eternal circle of life that envelops our world.Imagine a serene landscape nestled in the mountains. Cows graze peacefully on alpine pastures, the sky stretches endlessly in a deep blue, and the warm spring sun casts its golden glow over the earth. From a hillside, we gaze down upon the village below, where quiet and peace reign. It is a place that carries the breath of time within its essence.But then, as if in a dream, the colors fade. Black and white take the stage, and we find ourselves transported 80 years into the past: it is April 20, 1943. The shadows of World War II have reached even St. Jakob am Arlberg. The swastika flag hangs heavily over the village square, while many of the village's men are away, serving on the front lines.On this day, Adolf Hitler's birthday, tragedy unfolds. A fire ignites - small at first, but fed by wind and timber, it grows into an unstoppable inferno. The flames hungrily consume house after house, and finally, they reach the village's beating heart: the church. Alarms echo through the streets, panic spreads like the fire itself, and the villagers fight desperately against the searing heat. Yet, despite their efforts, the steeple, which once rang out time for the village, collapses, and the church burns to its very foundations.The village is wounded, its people left amidst the ruins of their lives. But amid the ashes and despair, the true strength of the community emerges. Shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, they come together to rebuild what seemed irretrievably lost.Gradually, color returns to the images. The wounds begin to heal, tears dry, and life blooms anew. The village rises again, radiant with hope and the resilience born from its darkest hours.For this is the cycle of life: from pain grows strength, and from the ashes of the past, the future is born - again and again.

£204.00The Light of Resistance - Franco Cesarini
Franco Cesarini was commissioned to write The Light of Resistance by the Filarmonica di Villadossola APS (Piedmont, Italy) for its 125th anniversary. The Villadossola revolt was an uprising that took place in November 1943 in the homonymous municipality during World War II. The partisans, with the support of local workers, managed to temporarily liberate the town from nazi-fascist forces. It was one of the first acts of armed resistance against the German occupation in Italy but was harshly repressed by nazi-fascist troops who regained control of the territory. Although it was suppressed, the uprising remained a symbol of courage and determination.The slow introduction of the composition creates an atmosphere of latent tension, which gradually intensifies until it explodes in a rapid movement, symbolizing the struggle. Two contrasting musical themes collide, embodying the conflict between opposing forces. In the central section, a prayer rises delicately, then evolves into a heroic parade celebrating the temporary triumph of the revolt. However, this victory is fleeting; dissonant harmonies interrupt the scene, representing the brutal repression of the insurrection. In the finale, the heroic theme reemerges, evoking sacrifice as a spark of unshakeable hope. A moment of contemplation closes the composition, honouring the lives broken and reaffirming hope for a future of peace and regained freedom.The premiere of The Light of Resistance took place on 30th March, 2025 in Villadossola, performed by the Filarmonica di Villadossola, Franco Cesarini conductor.

It was composed for and dedicated to those wounded in the army, paying tribute to their courage, resilience, and inner strength. Through a musical style rich in emotion and power, this work celebrates the "survivors" - those who, despite the hardships of war and injury, continue to pick themselves up, overcome adversity, and find within themselves an unshakeable determination. Survivors embodies both the enormity of the struggle and the hope of reconstruction, a march for those who have been wounded but who, through their courage, have become survivors. This concert march was commissioned by the French Army bands on the initiative of their musical director, Maurice Marc.

£99.00Postcards from Tomorrow - Gauthier Dupertuis
During their childhood, some people have the tradition to put their toys, drawings and wishes for the future into a timebox that they bury somewhere to dig up when they are adults. This has inspired Gauthier Dupertuis for the title of this work: Postcards from tomorrow. What wishes would we put in those boxes for the future; what kind of postcards would we send to our grandchildren? To compose this work, Gauthier Dupertuis was also inspired by three pictures that have some symbolic meaning linked to the question above and that give the names to the three movements that make up this piece.The first movement, Abandoned Blockhouses, refers to war and other horrors in the history of humanity, while Pagoda at the Lake, the second movement, was inspired by the pagoda, a religious building whose function is to house the relics of holy people in Asian worship. The third and last movement, Building Bridges, is a call for hope. In July 221, Postcards from Tomorrow was awarded the first prize at the "La Bacchetta d'Oro" international composition contest in Italy.

Or perhaps a balance of the two?This question has probably been posed by everyone at some time or another, and the answer is as challenging as it is subjective. This is also the theme of this work.The poet and soldier Cyrano de Bergerac is known for his big nose and his great intellect. The 17th century novelist harbours feelings for the beautiful Roxane but is sure that this love will never be reciprocated. Roxane herself falls in love with the cadet Christian de Neuvillette, who is certainly handsome but could be described as stupid. Cyrano de Bergerac writes love poems on behalf of Christian to win Roxane's heart. And then there is the Count Guiche, who is married but also wants to make her is mistress.Christian and Roxane eventually marry and the furious Count Guiche sends Christian and Cyrano, who serve together in the Captains of Gascony regiment, to the front and, some months later, on a suicide mission.Shortly before the battle, Roxane confesses to her husband that she no longer loves him so much for his beauty as for his inner values. Christian is dismayed and begs Cyrano to tell Roxane the truth, but he can't bring himself to do so.Christian de Neuvillette dies in battle and Cyrano de Bergerac remains silent about the true provenance of the letters.Only much later does the truth come to light: scarred by the war, Cyrano visits Roxane in the convent where she has been living since Christian's death and confesses his love for her. He ultimately dies in Roxane's arms.

The song became a global resistance song against oppressive powers. In 2018, the song became known again through the Spanish Netflix series La Casa de Papel, in which the song was used multiple times. Jan van Kraeydonck wrote a skillful arrangement for concert band, fanfare and brass band.

The Symphonic Prelude in C minor is an orchestral composition from the circle of the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. The unearthing of this work, discovered shortly after World War II, has created confusion, leading to a second, reduced version being attributed to Gustav Mahler, a theory which still holds sway in musical circles today, although there is a high probability that the original composition is indeed by Bruckner himself. Rudolf Krzyzanowski (1895-1911), a pupil of Bruckner, transcribed the score in 1876. The 43-page manuscript bears the inscription Rudolf Krzyzanowski cop. 1876 on the first page; while on the last page is written in blue pencil: By Anton Bruckner.Thomas Doss used a facsimile of this autograph copy as the basic of his instrumentation of the prelude for symphonic wind orchestra.
