Le Cygne - Camille Saint-Saens
Le carnaval des animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by French composer Camille Saint-Sans. Le Cygne is the 13th movement of the suite, originally scored for two pianos and cello: the lushly romantic cello solo (which evokes the swan elegantly gliding over the water) is played over rippling sixteenths in one piano and rolled chords in the other (said to represent the swan's feet, hidden from view beneath the water, propelling it along). It has become a staple of the cello repertoire and one of the most well-known movements of the suite. Many other arrangements of this movement have also been published, with solo instruments ranging from flute to alto saxophone. Dutch arranger Andreas van Zoelen arranged this movement for solo cello with accompaniment of a small Wind Ensemble.

His love for Italy explains Carl Wittrock solid in the composition Tignale, named after the same village that he visited one of his vacations. This village dominates the image of the western shore of Lake Garda, where it has a view on the Monte Baldo at the other side of the lake. It is a busy resort and center for excursions in the area. The enchanting location and stunning natural beauty inspired the composer to a musical description of Tignale and its surroundings. An impressive work and a wonderful challenge for orchestras in the middle section. De liefde voor Itali legt Carl Wittrock vast in de compositie Tignale, genoemd naar het gelijknamige dorpje dathij op een van zijn vakanties bezocht. Dit dorp beheerst het beeld van de westoever van het Gardameer, waar het uitziet op de berg Monte Baldo aan de overzijde. Since 1166, the only sanctuary in Italy dedicated to the memory of Saint Patrick has sat in Colzate. Numerous people visit this sacred place every year, also to admire the extraordinary view from its portico and the luxurious nature that surrounds it. The sanctuary seems to be shaped by nature itself, as its walls blend with the rock on which it rests. The building of this sacred place is associated with the trade relations that the inhabitants of the Seriana Valley shared with merchants from Ireland. It took centuries for the sanctuary to become what we see today: the construction of its nucleus began in the 12th century and ended with the erection of the current portico. This composition depicts in music the veneration that the people of Colzate and neighboring villages have for Saint Patrick. The ternary form recalls the symbol of the clover (in Gaelic Shamrock), with which Saint Patrick explained the Trinity to the people of Ireland.
