This excellent arrangement by Robert van Beringen is of the well-known German chorale Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, taken from the oratorio Paulus (St. Paul) by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847). Although accredited to Mendelssohn it is thought the melody was in fact written by the pastor and poet Philipp Nicolai in 1599. Robert van Beringen's arrangement perfectly captures the biblical story of St. Paul.

In his own distinctive style, Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Hndel. Van Beringen used Bach's chorale Brich an, o schnes Morgenlicht ('Break forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light') from his Christmas Oratorio and the recitative Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with Us from Hndel's Messiah. A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!

This little concerto for clarinet was written for Peter Holligan , a friend of its composer, and the Fife Youth Concert Band (Scotland). The work was based on traditional Celtic music, and consists of three movements. 1. Reel - a fast dance ending in an atmospheric but virtuoso cadenza. 2. Lament - a slow and melancholy song hinting at the sound of bagpipes. 3. A fast and virtuoso dance in 6/8 time with Irish influence. The work is a wonderful audience-pleaser and an absolute 'must' for all clarinet-players. The band too is called upon and by all means does have its part to play in the piece. Band grade 4, soloist grade 5. Dit Concertino voorklarinet werd geschreven voor Peter Holligan , een vriend van de componist, en de Fife Youth Concert Band (Schotland). Het werk is gebaseerd op de traditionele Keltische muziek, en bestaat uit drie delen. 1. Reel - een snelle dans die eindigt in een sfeervolle, maar virtuoze cadens. 2. Lament - een trage en melancholische melodie die het geluid van doedelzakken verbeeldt.3. Een snelle en virtuoze dans in 6 / 8 maatsoort met Ierse invloeden. Sonoritas was commissioned by the Kaohsiung City Wind Orchestra, a professional wind orchestra from Taiwan. The work premiered on 10 September 2023 in the beautiful Kaohsiung Weiwuying Concert Hall, performed by the same orchestra and conducted by the composer. This impressive hall holds the largest concert organ in Asia, inspiring the composer to grant this majestic instrument a role in the composition - albeit ad libitum. Accordingly, all the important passages have also been provided for woodwind or brass instruments, so that the work can be performed with or without an organ.The title Sonoritas reflects the musical content, the rich timbres and sounds of both the wind orchestra and the organ being fully employed in this dynamic composition. A chorale melody with expansive chords opens the work and culminates in a driving theme presented by the brass instruments in various registers. The woodwinds, in turn, introduce a virtuoso saltarello-like theme, followed by a development of all these thematic elements in various forms and combinations. The work concludes grandly with an organ-like finale and, as a high point, a sonorous final chord, which crowns this wonderful sound piece with its broad lines and full harmonies, as well as rhythmic and technical fireworks.

It has beautiful solos for euphonium and flugelhorn, a star role for the trumpets and trombones, but it is also a joy to play for the entire band! This solemn overture was written for concert band to commemorate the 20th Festival Bandistico Besana in Brianza for 2024. This multifaceted work features three movements: the serene and solemn Corale solenne, which is then followed by Danza con eleganza, in which alternating changes of time signature form a jaunty and also somewhat whimsical whole. The Finale trionfale is thematically based on the opening chorale, though now in a festive guise. Frequent modulations convey the melodies and themes in various keys, resulting in a wonderful harmonic colourfulness. Viva Besana, viva la musica!
