The 'Admiral Spirit' is the pride of the Navy. The ship is at sea, there is no wind, the sun is shining. The crew are busy piloting the ship into port in prime condition. The admiral himself will inspect the vessel. The first movement (Allegro Con Spirito) gives musical expression to the majestic ship and its toiling crew. In the second movement (Andante), the ship sails into port. It has been polished and technically everything is in order. The admiral will be proud when he inspects the ship. Third movement (Allegro Molto): the captain and his crew are nervous (modulations) while working at the 'finishing touch'. The Navy Band is ready to receive the admiral !. De bemanning van het marineschip Admiral Spirit is druk bezig om het schip in optimale conditie de haven binnen te loodsen, de admiraal gaat namelijk het schip zelf inspecteren. In het eerste deel (Allegro con spirito) horen we een verklanking van het majestueuze schip en de zwoegende bemanning. Hoe beeldend zijn de emmertjes water welke overboord gaan (trombones). In het tweede deel (Andante) vaart het schip de haven binnen. Het schip is gepoetst en technisch is alles in orde. Derde deel (Allegro molto): De kapitein en zijn bemanning zijn nerveus (modulaties) en er wordt aan de finishing touch gewerkt. De Navy Band staat klaar om de admiraal te ontvangen! In 2006 Brabant will be celebrating it's 900th anniversary. On May 13th 1106 the count Van Leuven was appointed duke of Brabant. This was the birth of the duchy of Brabant. For centuries this duchy, situated in the heart of the Netherlands, was the primary of the seventeen provinces in the Lowlands. Brabant formed with it's capital cities Brussels, Leuven, Antwerp and 's-Hertogenbosch the focal point for politics, culture and economy. The revolution against Spain (1566-1648) caused a fracture between the North and South. The old duchy was divided into a Dutch and Belgian part. Even though each had their own historical background, the bond forged in the past was partially keptalive. To this day we still have a duke of Brabant. Brabantia Aeterna takes you on a musical journey through 900 years of Brabant history. A fascinating journey portraying war and peace, love and grief, prosperity and adversity, development and deterioration. Listen to how monks chanted, bells tolled and churches were built. Or take the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries with their bustling markets, builders of cities or the bleating of countless sheep across the heather. The plague, tribulations, soldiers and political bickering in the following centuries. Hear how the industrialisation of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries provided prosperity for the region and how to this day the following saying still applies: 'the road to Brabant leads to a warmer world' Brabantia Aeterna was commissioned by the Brabantse Bond van Muziekverenigingen (Brabant Music Society) in honour of its fifth anniversary.

Henk van Belcums used the festive and much loved song 'In Thee is Gladness', in this arrangement. Better known as 'Geest van hierboven' (Hymn 477) from the Songs for the Church (NL). A glorious fanfare opens the piece, which is then followed by a bright dance. The hymn is heard in the chorale section, in a fancy new setting, and the piece closes with a reprise of the opening fanfare.

Sonoritas was commissioned by the Kaohsiung City Wind Orchestra, a professional wind orchestra from Taiwan. The work premiered on 10 September 2023 in the beautiful Kaohsiung Weiwuying Concert Hall, performed by the same orchestra and conducted by the composer. This impressive hall holds the largest concert organ in Asia, inspiring the composer to grant this majestic instrument a role in the composition - albeit ad libitum. Accordingly, all the important passages have also been provided for woodwind or brass instruments, so that the work can be performed with or without an organ.The title Sonoritas reflects the musical content, the rich timbres and sounds of both the wind orchestra and the organ being fully employed in this dynamic composition. A chorale melody with expansive chords opens the work and culminates in a driving theme presented by the brass instruments in various registers. The woodwinds, in turn, introduce a virtuoso saltarello-like theme, followed by a development of all these thematic elements in various forms and combinations. The work concludes grandly with an organ-like finale and, as a high point, a sonorous final chord, which crowns this wonderful sound piece with its broad lines and full harmonies, as well as rhythmic and technical fireworks.

Nimrod is the name given to the ninth and best-known variation inEdward Elgar's Enigma Variations, an orchestral work of 14 variations on an original theme composed between 1898 and 1899. Each variation is also a portrait of one of 14 members of Elgar's family and circle of friends. A celebrated work, Nimrod is a portrait of Augustus Johannes Jaeger, who in addition to being his best friend was also Elgar's editor.The variations all represent a series of portraits and as such are entitled with a name or initials that identify the person. Biblically, Nimrod is a great hunter of the Old Testament, thus representing his muse through a play on words: Jger in German means 'hunter'. The melody appears to represent a nocturnal stroll during which the two discuss Ludwig van Beethoven's slow movements; the first eight bars, in fact, recall the beginning of the second movement of the Pathtique Piano Sonata.An arrangement of classical music signed by Franco Cesarini which stands out for its skilful and careful instrumentation.
