A very exciting and contemporary work that is descriptive of the tragedy that occurred in Central America in 1541 when a long quiet volcano that had filled with water suddenly erupted, sending mud and water covering the city of Ciudad Vieja killing many and completely wiping out the city. The name of that volcano was Agua, which on that day brought whelm on to everything that its waters touched. This is the second published work by young composer Cory McBride and was written when he was a 16 year old high school student. Bold, unique and distinctive, includes solos for flute, tenor sax, bari sax & horn and it's an excellent programming choice for any festival or concert performance by better bands.

Composer Robert Spittal was moved to complete this work in response to the Newtown, CT tragedy in 2012, and serves as a reflection of our complicated feelings of grief and loss. The music is simple and direct, and meant as a hopeful work for young players. Moved by a metaphor describing the victims as "twenty-six new diamonds in the sky" the title is a reference to the stars which we look upward to for inspiration, for hope, and to dream of better things to come. Includes:Solemn MarchValse TristeFinaleThe thematic material for the first movement, Solemn March, started life as a coronation procession in Trevor Nunn's legendary production of The Revenger's Tragedy, a notorious Jacobean blood and guts play by Cyril Tourneur. Trevor Nunn was also the director of a much loved production of All's Well That Ends Well, starring Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Harriet Walter, from which the Valse Triste comes, featuring a haunting melody tailor-made for the oboe. The last movement, Finale, is a reworking of the curtain call music for Bill Alexander's amazing production of Richard III starring Antony Sher, who memorably played the role on crutches.

Earhart
The legend of Amelia Earhart continues to capture the imaginations of aviators and historians worldwide. Earhart, a pioneer in aviation and in women's rights, began her final journey in the United States and crossed multiple continents. Robert W. Smith has drawn upon Earhart's final flight to create this unique musical composition. Following the opening "takeoff," the composer was inspired by the indigenous sounds of the various continents in Earhart's flight path. From a unique fugue inspired by the music of Central and South America to a lyrical statement from the Dark Continent, the listener is transported on a musical journey that will capture the imagination. Following a dark and powerful percussion statement with Asian overtones, the journey ends not in tragedy but in celebration as the original flight theme returns. An excellent choice for any concert setting!
