Written for an icon in the band world, "Favor And Treasure" honors Col. John Bourgeois, Director Emeritus of the United States Marine Band, past president of the American Bandmasters Association, president of the John Philip Sousa Foundation, American vice president of the International Military Music Society, mentor and friend. "Favor And Treasure" is based on "John's Theme," a bold, original theme conveying inspirational imagery of excellence, artistry and duty congruous with Col. Bourgeois' distinguished career at the helm of the band to which President Thomas Jefferson gave the title "The President's Own." To honor Bourgeois' affinity for Cajun folk music, the old Cajun waltz, "J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte" is also used, most prominently in the quasi-zydeco section of the work. Musicians and audience members of all ages will be assuredly affected by the spirit and essence of this extraordinary composition.

The Great Land Run - Anderson, Jackson
An exciting journey through the old west, "The Great Land Run" paints an exhilarating picture of 1889 Oklahoma. A fanfare-like main theme at the beginning is followed by the night around the campfire. As the settlers rest, a gentle storm washes over them bringing forth the questions of what tomorrow may bring. As morning rises, they head back on their way to stake their plot of land and new life. A powerful recap of the main theme drives this piece to an exciting end. Program NotesToccata - Oh the blessed Lord was first conceived as a brass sextet and remained in that form until the early 1970s when it was amplified to full brass band instrumentation. Now its further amplification to Wind Band it is hoped that it will be enjoyed by an even greater audience and many more performers.Whilst it is not easy to play, the music, once mastered, is something that bands enjoy. It will be evident to the discerning that this close-knit work is based on the verse of an adaption of the old spiritual, "Oh, dem golden slippers," the text beginning, "Oh the blessed Lord, He has saved my soul." The figures are derived therefrom.The absence of percussion is the express intention of the composer.

The Trattamars (Tratta March) was originally written for 'Il trattamento miracolo', an ensemble of five, performing light-hearted musical acts for the young and the old. This march is played when the members of the group appear on stage. The Dutch composer of the march, Matthias van Nispen tot Pannerden, studied classical saxophone as well as band conducting and composition at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg. He is a baritone saxophonist with the Orkest van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Band of the Royal Netherlands Air force). He is also active as a freelance conductor and composer.
