    Euterpe - Ferrer Ferran

Music is an indispensable element in the lives of human beings. In nature, we see the essence of this principle reflected. Plato imagined the cosmos as a live animal: all parts are connected in harmony. From this point of view, the universe forms a large pentagram in which all notes flow together perfectly. This is confirmed around us every day. The twittering of a canary, the sputtering of fire, the sparkle of a waterfall pattering and falling on stones, the rattle of a snake that takes on a threatening attitude, or even the silence of the desert are expressions of Euterpe (the muse of music). Why not let your flautist shine with this major new solo work.

Light-Walk - Score and Parts - Barrie Gott

Program NotesThe tune Walk in the Light received "big band" treatment in this fun arrangement from the pen of Australian Barrie Gott. Barrie's originality and flair shine through as his own original music sits comfortably alongside the old tune. There is a central 'jazz break' solo passage placed in the trumpet line in which the written solo notation is supplemented by chord indications that will offer scope for improvisation by the soloist if desired. This is an entertaining piece that will prove to be a popular addition to the repertoire, both from the listeners' and players' viewpoints.

Big Bass (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Rogers, Scott

Every beginning low brass player deserves a big bassline. With a rhythmic focus on quarter- and eighth notes and a range of a fourth, this piece is easily accessible for all beginning low brass players and mastery breeds motivation, and that s something young musicians on trombone, baritone and tuba need. There is also a short chromatic motive that appears at B. This is written to lie well on the slide and valves and can be a good way to teach the important difference between concert E and Eb.Duration: 1.00

Heartbeat of a City (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.

A city is founded, it has a heart that beats. But visible achievements such as buildings and infrastructure merely bear witness to what its true heart is made of, the people who have lived, and still live, in the city. The pulse of the city, brought to life by its heartbeat, changes over time. Who hasn't seen those time-lapse images showing twinkling lines of car lights as people make their way to work, while others stand at traffic lights, only moving as if at the push of a button? These are like life flowing in the veins, driven by a strong heart. Leonardo da Vinci had already imagined the rivers as the blood vessels of the Earth. In any city, though, it's not the rivers but the movement and activities of the people who live there. The heart doesn't always beat steadily, however, but its rhythm can be influenced by joy, fear, and many other things. Every city has its own pulse. This is also true of the university city of Marburg, where people from over 100 nations now live together in a cosmopolitan and tolerant community. This work describes the city from its founding in 1222, and the charity of Saint Elizabeth, all the way to the present day.Duration: 9.15

Desert Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Henderson is a city in Clark County, Nevada, just southeast of Las Vegas and surrounded by desert: this was the inspiration for the title. Desert Dances opens with a lively introduction, mostly in 3/4, which pervades the faster sections of the piece. This subsides to introduce a slower dance which expands to a full-band climax. The introduction soon returns and leads to the main theme of the piece, a waltz-like melody played by the full ensemble. A short bridge passage follows, which leads to a legato central theme. This is played twice and heralds the return of the main theme and a short coda which closes the work. An imaginative work for concert or contest with nice features throughout all groups of the band.Duration: 4.45

Silent Night (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Gruber, Franz - Noble & Willcocks

Silent Night (German: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht) is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. It was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. Over the years, because the original manuscript had been lost, Mohr's name was forgotten and although Gruber was known to be the composer, many people assumed the melody was composed by a famous composer, and it was variously attributed to Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven. However, a manuscript was discovered in 1995 in Mohr's handwriting and dated by researchers as c. 1820. It states that Mohr wrote the words in 1816 when he was assigned to a pilgrim church in Mariapfarr, Austria, and shows that the music was composed by Gruber in 1818. This is the earliest manuscript that exists and the only one in Mohr's handwriting. The song has been recorded by a large number of singers across many music genres. This haunting setting by David Willcocks also includes slight textual alterations to the piece that has been translated into about 140 languages. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.
