    El Camino - Ryan Meeboer

provides ultimate flexibility for ensembles with incomplete instrumentation or odd combinations. These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling. Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. El Camino (The Road) is a Spanish march composed in the traditional style of a pasodoble. This piece is fast paced and energetic from start to finish and sounds more complicated than it seems! This is something a little different in the march category that will have audiences tapping their toes. (2:00)

    El Tango - Rob Romeyn

The Tango is a well known and recognizable style of music that originated in Argentina in the mid 19th century. is a fresh and creative example of this style, as the music gives the effect of building intensity from beginning to end. Lots of imaginative and "tasty" percussion parts add to the effect. A fun, "surprise" ending brings this enjoyable and stylistic work to a close. This is a wonderful change of pace for any concert or festival performance!

Pictures at an Exhibition, Part 6: The Hut on Fowl's Legs - Modest Mussorgsky / arr. John Boyd

This is an impressive and massive work for mature bands! The work is available in its entirety with all seven sections and the score included at a value-minded price, or each of the individual sections may be ordered individually as a set of parts only and the complete score (10105314) may be purchased separately should only certain sections be of interest. Pioneer Hope - Frank McKinney

This expressive piece by Frank McKinney recalls the lives of American pioneers. Starting with only the clarinets, the pensive opening melody is thoughtfully stated by the woodwind choir. As the full ensemble enters, the mood quickly transforms into adventurous excitement. Eventually the pioneer struggle is rewarded and hope emerges with strength and resolve with brief statements of "This Is My Father's World" and "America, the Beautiful," before the final restating of both themes. Young ensembles will be able to explore all the aspects of musicianship with this well-scored work.

    Couchiching Suite - John Herberman

was written as a commission from the National Music Camp of Canada, which runs each year on the shores of beautiful Lake Couchiching, north of Toronto, Canada. The goal in composing this piece was to give the top students at the camp a challenging and original piece to play. The first movement is a march in 5/4 that derives its pulse from the melodic shapes, rather than set groupings of beats. The middle movement is a slow homophonic song with rich harmonies and thick chordal textures requiring good listening and tuning skills. The third movement is a burner in mixed meters featuring solo alto saxophone and a soaring soli for the French horns. This is a great concert suite to showcase the achievements and abilities of a senior ensemble.
