£137.99Virginia - Jacob de Haan
This expressive piece depicts three periods that play an important role in the history of the American state of Virginia, the colonization, slavery, and the American Civil War. The first movement describes the adventures and hardships of the first colonists through lively American sounding themes. The expressive slow movement, in which a melancholic minor theme forms the starting point, depicts, with clever use of blues elements, the oppressed slaves on the tobacco plantation. This is followed by a illustration of the Civil War, heralded by ceremonial figures from the brass section. The work is brought to a close with a slow but optimistic theme heralding hope for the future.

£94.99Verso il Sole - Lorenzo Bocci
Since the beginning of mankind people have realized that the warmth and the light of the sun were necessary to develop life on earth - by creating winds in the air, by generating rains through the evaporation of sea water and by allowing plants to grow. The sun creates the dynamism of the chain of life. This is the reason why ancient populations adored the sun as the god of cosmic order as opposed to the god of chaos or night, who generated fear and the necessity of defense. This piece is a tribute to the sun (Verso il Sole) as an existential symbol of life and energy.

£159.99Tanczi - Jan Van der Roost
This suite was written in the style of traditional Russian folk music, but does not use existing melodies or themes as its basis. The colourful and varied work contains a number of surprising turns, but also familiar sounds. After the introduction, a kind of Trepak follows ? a fairly quick dance with attractive themes. The second movement (Garovot) is predominantly slow and conveys some melancholy, although, during a more dynamic passage the passion flares up again. Finally, the Troika takes us along in a reindeer sleigh through a grand snowy landscape. This is a wonderful tribute to the music of Eastern Europe in the style of some of the great Russian masters.

£104.99The Other Side - Stijn Roels
The Other Side was written as a farewell to a loved one. Following the melancholy theme of mourning in a minor key we also hear the happy memories in major key and also the knowledge that the person who has gone to 'a better place'is now at peace. This is a soulful and calm work that leaves plenty of space for the musicians' and listeners' own thoughts. This set includes optional parts for piano and vibraphone.
