£37.43Courte Ouverture (Wind Band) Tom Juzwiak
'Courte Ouverture' as translated from the French means 'Short Overture'. Written for a medium level ensemble, it commences with a high trill in the piccolo followed by a flourish in the flutes before the main theme is introduced. This primary melody can be heard throughout the selection. It then transitions into an almost hymn-like middle section before an accelerando takes us back to the flute flourish and main theme. This piece uses the music ensemble to its fullest. Memorable melodies and traditional harmonies are spread throughout the instrumentation. A magnificent major work based on the German chorale 'Was Lebet' (O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness). The piece is made up of five contrasting variations. A majestic, fanfare-like section opens the work, leading into a giocoso classical-style variation. The beautiful Variation 2 is reflective and plaintive, while the next variation is somewhat quirky and volatile in nature. There is a French romantic feel to Variation 4, with a playful waltz providing scope for various soloists around the band to display their musicianship. Variation 5 is fugal in nature, with each section of the band being handed the theme at various points. The sense of motion builds gradually to a grandiose presentation of the theme, the first time that it is heard in its full form, bringing the work to a thrilling, majestic conclusion. *Please note audio and video are of the brass band version. The Spartan Warriors (CB) - Pimpanit Karoonyavanich
The Sparta army is well-known in the time of the ancient Greek that the warriors would never lay down their weapons for any reason. The theme from the beginning of the piece strongly declares that the warriors are always willing to fight for their homeland. The slow movement reflects the feeling of the warriors when they are far away from their loved one due to their duty. The composers intently uses the harmony that gives a hopeful feeling but also painful at the same time. The audience can hear the bell during the piece. It is the symbol of the clock towers which located in every cities. Everytime that the warriors leaves a city, the sound of the bell becomes softer and softer until it disappears. Only at the end of the piece that the bell rings only one last time after the majestical theme. It's the bell of victory!

This, we feel, will be a significant work for Wind Band as it has been for the brass band movement.

This work is a three-part composition based on the Latin words meaning Strength, Skill, and Character. The piece opens with a poignant fanfare depicting the strength of the modern concert band, which is followed by a fast-paced section, meant to demonstrate the performers' skills. The third section of the work is an uplifting theme designed to depict character. After moving back to the skill theme in a new key, it builds to a dramatic climax, followed by a short coda that bursts to the finish. Ideal for concert or contest.
