Extreme Makeover (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
Extreme Make-Over was inspired by a theme from the second movement of Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No.1 (Andante Cantabile). It consists of a number of musical metamorphoses on the theme and includes several excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Fourth and Sixth Symphonies and Romeo and Juliet. The most unconventional element of the work is instrumentation for ten tuned bottles to be played by members of the cornet section. This gives the piece an Indonesian Gamelan effect. Why not give your players something to get their teeth into with this impressive major work. Duration: 16.30

Arden Variations (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Edmunds, John F.
Arden Variations is a theme and variations form in three movements, each replete with melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic variations on the simple 8-bar chorale theme of the opening Prelude. Originally intended as an analytical study for students in the composer's Advanced Harmony course at Louisiana State University, the piece seemed to demand further development as each new harmonic device was introduced. Its frequent distant-key modulations and varied rhythmic excursions keep the simple melody alive and interesting throughout its six-and-a-half minute length.Duration: 6:30

Chino Hills (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - O'Reilly, John
Syncopated brass and driving percussion open this sparkling concert selection. The rhythmic woodwind melody that enters after the brief introduction is set in the Dorian mode, a tonality that dominates the remainder of the piece. The very prominent percussion section gives way to a more delicate woodblock, triangle and tambourine ostinato that accompanies the light hearted second theme. Trumpets now take over the melody and the style hints at the early Hispanic roots of Chico Hills. A lyrical theme in the original Dorian mode highlights the slower middle section that builds to a dramatic climax before returning to the opening Allegro and a short exciting conclusion. This very playable and appealing overture by Robert Jager is sure to be enjoyable by younger players. Bold and dignified characterize the opening segment which is followed by an energetic faster theme reminiscent of a Scottish Highland dance. A tender hymn-like melody is then developed before returning to the faster theme and powerful closing coda. Very well scored to sound full.
