March of the Robot Army (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

March of the Robot Army was commissioned by Linda Anzolin and Giordano-Bruno Tedeschi for Campobanda 2019, with funds made available by Just Italia. Campobanda is an Italian summer music camp for 8 to 18 year olds which has a different theme every year. The theme for 2019 was science fiction, so composer Philip Sparke chose to write a robot march. After a quirky introduction featuring trumpet calls and chromatic figures, the main theme appears in a minor mode on clarinet and tenor sax and is then taken up by the full band. A change of key heralds a new theme, led by the trumpet and again repeated by the full ensemble. A further change of key introduces a legato trio melody over a rather robotic accompaniment: instruments are added bit by bit until a climax is reached. Small motifs from the introduction then lead back to a full recapitulation, revisiting the first two themes in new guises before finishing the march with a flourish.Duration: 5.00

A Trombone Family Reunion (Trombone Trio with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fillmore, Henry - Glover, Andrew

Between 1908 and 1929, Henry Fillmore composed a series of fifteen novelty pieces featuring the trombone section with band. These became collectively known as "The Trombone Family," with names and subtitles connecting them in sort of a musical genealogy. The three most popular family members, "Lassus Trombone," "Miss Trombone," and "Shoutin' Liza Trombone" join together in a whimsical way for "A Trombone Family Reunion," along with some "shirttail relatives" depicted by famous trombone excerpts from the symphonic repertoire. Included are quotations from "Blue Bells Of Scotland," "Symphony No. 4" by Tchaikovsky, "Tannhauser Overture," "Second Hungarian Rhapsody," "Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Ride of the Valkyries," "Turkey In The Straw," and a few other surprises. The Cossack (March) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rimmer, William - Brand, Geoffrey

Another great march from William Rimmer, Britain's Lancashire-born "March King," who is reputed to have written more that a hundred marches. A Cossack, as defined in The Oxford Dictionary, is a "member of a people of southeastern Russia, especially as light horse in Russian army." William Rimmer's march opens with a magnificent portrayal of the strength and vigor which that definition implies and there is more character portrayal to come. An insightful Trio provides evidence of a Cossack's more reflective side before a short bridge takes the music back, via a Da Capo, to its opening power and strength. In William Rimmer's skillful hands, "March: The Cossack" is veritably a musical portrait.
