A Hero's Return (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Richard, Douglas A.
A Hero's Return was written for the West Point Middle School Band, located at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. The opening section conveys the celebratory atmosphere of when a hero comes home to friends and family. The middle section represents the quiet tribute we pay to the fond memories of heroes no longer in our midst. The return to the initial theme welcomes not only the hero returning today, but symbolises the hopes for the safe return of all our heroes who so bravely serve their nation.Duration: 4.00

The Winds Of Power - Nigel Hess
Unlike Nigel Hess's other works for wind band, The Winds of Power is not a programmatic work. After a dark and menacing opening a solo trumpet introduces a theme which will eventually become the centre of a piece and is soon heard tutti in a lyrical form. This is interrupted by a return to the opening mood, with only a brief respite in the form of a chorale for clarinet choir and harp. The theme tries to return once more in a rousing, somewhat cinematic version, but again the sense of foreboding overtakes it. An unsettling march-like section follows before the theme returns in its most lyrical and gentle guise, introduced by solos in the woodwind section. Eventually, a maestoso statement which erupts into a presto coda, ends the journey in a triumphant, more optimistic blaze of sound.

Symphony No.5, Return to Middle Earth (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
For Wind Orchestra, Soprano Solo and ChoirAfter 30 years, Johan de Meij revisits Middle-Earth, the enchanting mythological world of J.R.R. Tolkien, with his spectacular Symphony No. 5 Return to Middle Earth. Although there are thematic reminiscences of his monumental first Symphony The Lord of the Rings from 1988, De Meij is putting a completely different musical vibe into his new symphony. There is an important role for a solo soprano and mixed choir: they sing in Ilkorin, one of the Elvish languages of Middle-Earth. The Orcs and other thugs also take the stage, but they only use raw screams in their own language, also known as black speech.
