March: 1919 is an imaginative recreation of the bizarre occasion in 1919 when a Royal Air Force band played on top of the R33 airship while in flight, as part of a government publicity campaign. The band was crammed onto the machine-gun platform on top of the hull as the giant machine cruised low over Sheffield, Bradford, Manchester and Liverpool in England, dropping leaflets advertising Victory Bonds.

Music for a Festival was originally composed for brass band and used as a test piece in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The wind band transcription was commissioned by Chris Hooker for the Hounslow Youth Wind Orchestra and first performed by them in May 1989 with the composer conducting. This work falls into three movements which are played without a break. El Camino Real (The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was commissioned by the 581st Air Force Band and its commander, Lt. Col. Ray E. Toler. This fantasy is based on a series of Spanish folk melodies and underscored by chord progressions used by generations of flamenco guitarists, whose fiery style and brilliant playing have created a vast body of what many consider authentic Spanish music.The music follows a traditional fast-slow-fast pattern, with a first section that is based on the dance form known as the jota, and second contrasting section derived from the fandango.
