The composer writes: 'The Phrygian mode is one of my favorite modes in music. In Fantasa Espaola you will hear a slightly altered form of the traditional mode, using a lowered second and raised third. It is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale and can be heard in music from all over the world.
