Four Shepherd Songs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob
Jacob de Haan arranged four Christmas carols in the suite Four Shepherd Songs. In the four-part instrumentation, creating the possibility to play the piece with a large number of varied strengths, he successively arranged Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht, Inmitten der Nacht, Kommet ihr Hirten, and Ihr Hirten, erwacht. There, they worship the new-born King, and offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh: Wij komen van Oosten (We've come from the East'). This arrangements i based on Diana Krall's version from the 2005 Album "Christmas Songs". The arrangement has many chamber-musical passages where a soloist is playing with a small group, please mind the balance and thin out if needed. Christmas Colours is a palette consisting of several Christmas songs. Bruce Fraser has mainly used the colours green (the colour of holly) and white (the colour of snow). This composition begins with the chiming of festive bells - if you listen well, however, you can already hear short fragments from 'The Holly and the Ivy', whose entire melody is finally played, alternated with 'The Sussex Carol'.
