Symphonic Variations - Oliver Waespi
This work is dedicated to Fritz Neukomm and was created at the MidEurope Festival in 2004 by the Schweizer Armee Spiel. The basic theme of this work is founded on a series of chords which are played in an archaic order. The variations that follow are not only musical variations of the theme, but also create a separate line that runs in parallel as a result of the choice of instruments. This piece is undoubtedly a real challenge for any ambitious orchestra and is extremely suitable for competitions and prestigious concerts.

Burlesco Romantico - Menno Bosgra
The colourful, compelling starting theme forms the leitmotiv throughout this piece. It is followed by a very rhythmical part with a catchy melody that is literally and figuratively music to the ear. A slow, almost meditative part follows with a beautiful alto saxophone solo that leads to an impressive chorale. The fast sections are once more repeated towards the end, but in another form. Cathedrals have always appealed to the imagination. Hundreds of years of manpower have been invested in their building and it is not for nothing that today they represent imposing symbols of architecture and history. The cathedral is also a great source of inspiration for compositions, drawing on a full palette of acoustic echo effects, Gregorian melodies and organ based choral themes.The work "Catedrals" opens with a five tone motif using double tonguing which resonates through space. Then comes a Gregorian antiphonal theme "Salve Regina" which is heard in the euphonium and later combines with the opening motif. The quicker passage that follows is basedentirely on the intervals in the motif which by now has added rhythmic variations and develops in different forms, including a fugue. The work then builds towards its first climax, from which unusual muted sounds emerge creating an atmosphere shrouded in mystery.Gradually, more melodious fragments are added to the Gregorian antiphonal theme which develops into an expansive choral, emulating the organ and which rises above the sound mass. The work grows more powerful and brilliant in sound until it culminates in a short and explosive finale wherein elements from the whole work come together.

10W-60 is the name of an engine oil that is entirely synthetic, has a very long life and is used mainly in vehicles from which high performance is required. In this way the composer makes the link with speed and energy, two important elements that can also be found in this three-part composition. Naoya Wada dedicated this piece to the famous Japanese trumpet-player Kazuki Hayasaka, and incorporated elements of boogie, Gershwin and rock.

£102.99Townscape - Bald Wyntin
Townscape was composed for the centenary of the St. Cecilia concertband from Oudenburg, a town which also inspired the composer throughout this work. The first part depicts a train slowly approaching from afar and then vanishing into the distance again. This is rendered by a sort of repetitive pulse in the music. This is followed by some serious action with jet skis on the Sinnesael lake. Their spectacular twists and turns are transformed into an exuberant theme and a middle section with several changes of time signature. After that comes a restful, lyrical Nocturne, a musical painting of the mill at night. The work concludes with a lively finale that is an ode to dailylife in Oudenburg, a place where people take initiative and there is plenty to see and do.
