£57.50Letter from Sado - Jodie Blackshaw
Letter from Sado is an exciting piece for young band designed to draw out the musicality in young players. With a focus on interpretation of an ancient haiku poem with natural imagery, performers are invited to become decision makers about specific sections in the music. Their decisions include ideas regarding tempo, dynamics and articulation in order to represent a wild stormy sea and a still starry night. Free interdisciplinary curriculum for teaching Sado is available at BandQuest.org. Dur: 5-7 minutes Recorded by the University of Minnesota Wind Ensemble - Craig Kirchhoff, conductor BandQuest, an exciting series of new music and accompanying curricula for band, is a program published by the American Composers Forum. The series was started as a response to feedback from music educators that there is a pressing need for new, fresh band music. The heart of this program is new works written by a diverse group of leading American composers who have created challenging pieces that are a true departure from standard middle school repertoire. Every BandQuest project includes a residency component in which the composer works collaboratively with a middle school as they create their new piece. Many BandQuest pieces are accompanied by an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to assist students as they learn the music and to integrate each piece with non-music studies. Visit www.bandquest.org to learn more about this innovative series, and email [email protected] to request a free downloadable audio catalog.

£60.99Of Gale Force Winds - Richard L. Saucedo
The turbulence and intensity of a major wind storm is effectively recreated in Richard Saucedo's Of Gale Force Winds. Based around rhythmic figures that create a wind-like effect, and combined with a playful melody, the piecealternates between 6/8 and 9/8 staying rhythmically dynamic throughout. A very brief moment of repose hints at the period of calm that comes in the middle or eye of bigger storms. The fury of the storm then returns with darkersonorities and increased energy as this descriptive work comes to an exciting conclusion. Dur: 4:00

£356.00Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100 - Sergei Prokofiev
Written in a single summer month while World War II was still raging in 1944, Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 would become not only one of the composer's most celebrated and performed works, it would stand among the giants in all of 20th Century classical compositions. Cast in four movements, Prokofiev once gave a statement that he intended it as a hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit. He added, I cannot say that I deliberately chose this theme. It was born in me and clamoured for expression. The music matured within me. It filled my soul. Deliberate or not, his statement likely helped placate the Communist Soviet Party, who under Stalin ruthlessly, and often fatally, censored the art and music of the time. This Southern Music publication represents the first complete band transcription of Prokofiev's monumental work by one of the world's most respected wind band editors, Dr. R. Mark Rogers. The edition provides a rare opportunity in the symphonic wind band repertoire for ensembles to perform an orchestral masterpiece in its entirety.

Reminiscencia Gitana - André Waignein
Reminiscencia Gitana was originally a piano piece. Andr Waignein wrote the piece for the Spanish pianist Blanca Quevedo, a student of his at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. This work has all the elements that make a composition interesting: melody, virtuosity and most importantly the 'Gitana' (gypsy) character. Each section follows on without interruption making a contrasting whole that will captivate both players and audience until the last note.

£84.99Claribelle - Wim Laseroms
Claribelle is fairly unique as a solo piece as rather than using one soloist it uses the whole clarinet section to play the solo part. . The composition is characterised by a fast tempo and by a theme which primarily consists of scale patterns that create a virtuoso character. Wim Laseroms wrote the piece in ABA-form with the accompaniment in the middle section having a somewhat more lyric character than that of the first and last sections. In the coda, the solo and the accompaniment join forces and conclude this short work in style with a brilliant fortissimo.

All Cried Out
At the beginning of the 1980s Alison Moyet was discovered by Vince Clarke, who - in search of greater independence - had left the successful band Depeche Mode. The soulful singing style of Moyet and the electronic, innovative pop that Clarke made melded well together in the group Yazoo with hits such as Only You and Don't Go. However, after a number of years Moyet went her own way and forged a solo career, during which she demonstrated a somewhat more traditional sound. She recorded several covers (such as The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and That Ole Devil Called Love) but she also wrotefine songs herself, such as Love Resurrection and, of course, the expressive song AllCried Out. This arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars does justice to the atmosphere of the original song.
