This symphonic poem is based on the story of "El Tempranillo" by the Spanish writer J.M. Hinojosa. El Tempranillo used to be called Robin Hood because he stole from the rich to give to the poor. Concerto for Horn and Band was written on commission from the horn player Miguel Martinez Megias and the symphonic concert band La Armnica from Buol, Spain. This four-movement work, written to fully explore the capabilities of the hornas a solo voice, is comprised of a dramatic Sarabande, a highly virtuoso Toccata, a wonderful Romance and a Finale that reworks the second movement in a kind of fugue and brings the work to a spectacular close. The basicbuilding block of this concerto, quite fittingly, is the fifth: you only have to think of the post horn or a hunting theme, which conjures up the sound of the perfect fifth. Wonderful new repertoire for a wonderful instrument.

Symphony for the Future was originally a soundtrack written for a multimedia spectacle with film, light and laser effects. The soundtrack, which initially consisted of 4 parts, was played live by a symphonic orchestra and a pop group, in sync with the screening of a film. The assignment was to reflect a message of hope and positive enthusiasm for the future, using music and film as a mixed media. In this arrangement for wind instruments, the 4 parts come together seamlessly. Jan Rypens has succeeded in producing an excellent orchestration of the piece.

Suite (From Der Rosenkavalier) - Richard Strauss
Richard Strauss (1864-1949) is mainly known for his symphonic poems such as Don Juan, Also Sprach Zarathustra, Ein Heldenleben,... However, he also wrote many operas and "Der Rosenkavalier" (created in 1911 in Dresden) with a libretto by Von Hofmannsthal is probably the most popular of them all. In our "Jan Cober Series", we would like to present this very special arrangement of the suite from "Der Rosenkavalier". Jan Cober worked extensively on this arrangement and carefully composed this new suite. In this respect, he preserved the necessary mood and vitality of Strauss's music so it could be played by a brass band. He has done this without losing sight of the musicaltension of the original.
