£149.99Jericho - Bert Appermont
Jericho is the musical translation of the well-known story from the book of Joshua about the capture of the city of Jericho by the Israelites.Part 1 depicts the cruel journey through the desert to Canaan, the promised land. An emotional lamentation for the yearning for a home, for the end of a roaming existence. The capture of Jericho is the theme of part 2. The city cannot be captured immediately and Jehovah orders an impressive army to march around the city for six days. On the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times and the priests blew their trumpets and the people cried so loud that the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. The Jews stormed the city and drove theinhabitants away. The music clearly reveals the marching army and you can hear the walls falling down with a tremendous noise. However, there is quite some artistic freedom in the actual story.A majestic and grand melody subsequently evokes the triumphant emotions that emerged as the fortified city fell (part 3).Following a personal and romantic interpretation, the scene ultimately ends in a typical Jewish feast (part 4) whereby the virtuosity of melodies played by the woodwinds and the passionate rhythms refer to traditional Jewish music. All themes are repeated in this last part in various forms, often simultaneous and in duelling counterpoint. The piece ends with fragments from the main theme of part 1 in major: peace and quiet return at last.

Porco Rosso - Joe Hisaishi
From the 1992 Japanese animated film about an Italian World War I flying ace who, for a wartime misdeed, was transformed into an anthropomorphic pig. The flamboyant post-war story of Porco Rosso (Crimson Pig) battling air pirates is full of intrigue and romance, and the film's diverse and lush soundtrack is one of the more rare Studio Ghibli scorings. Mr. Tomoki Ubata, (band director at Ina Gakuen Sr. High School) assisted with medley design as we both became intrigued with the music. The sixth song, Kyouki ~ hishou (insanity & soaring), appearing on Joe Hisaishi's album "My Lost City", is often performed for his concerts. Due to its complexity I am sure this is one of Hisaishi's favorites. I also added the French chanson "Le Temps des cerises" (Antoine Renard) that Madame Gena sings in the film. This is my favorite of all chansons; I was happy to include this bittersweet, beautiful melody. The following themes are contained in the arrangement:1. Le Temps des cerises2. Jidai no kaze (Wind of the Times)3. Mammaito4. Pikkoro no onnatachi (Women of Piccolo)5. Porco e Bella6. Kyouki ~ hishou (Insanity & Soaring)7. Tooki jidai o momomede (Seeking for Far Times)You can hear how the story folds without a screen.(Kazuhiro Morita)

£78.20Cloud(iu)s ... der Wolkenmann - Thiemo Kraas
4 Miniatures for Winds: 1. Wind 2. Storm 3. Rain 4. Sun and Snow There was a little child who enthusiastically told a story ... and a composer who was equally inspired by the child and its story to write these miniatures. At the premier performance of my composition "Arcus" in March 2011, when I explained how a piece about the rainbow came into being, a little girl came up to me and asked: "Thiemo, what about the man in the clouds?" I obviously had forgotten to include him, though he is as the little girl informed me of extreme importance in the sky: "He sits in the clouds and is responsible for the weather. He shakes rain, wind, storm or snow out of the clouds, he pushes them aside to let the sunshine through or he models them into funny figures, making people on earth smile." Fascinated by the girl's ingenuous ideas I created this small composition, sitting in my study and letting my mind wander into the sky. As the man in the clouds naturally has to have a name, I decided to call him "Cloud(iu)s ... man in the clouds". I dedicate this piece to the children of my beginner's band, who show me again and again how wonderful and precious it is to delight in the small things in life ...

£149.40Sommernatt ved fjorden - Ketil Bjørnstad
"By the Fjord" is written by the Norwegian composer Kjetil Bjrnstad and is the most famous song from the musical work "Leve Patagonia" which was published in 1978. The work is written as a modern suite about the Oslo Bohemians Hans Jaeger and OdaLasson sitting in a pram on the fjord a summer night. Odas sister sees the couple on the sea from her window and tells us the story.Kjetil Bjrnstad wrote "By the Fjord" in his house outside Tvedestrand early spring 1978. He was initially notfully satisfied and considered disposing it. The beautiful music has luckily made the song a classic in Norwegian music. To the conductorThis arrangement can be used with both vocal andinstrumental soloist. Its always a challenge toarrange songs with many verses that tells a story if it is to be played by an instrumental soloist instead of a singer. Because of that, please cut the repeats if it's performed without lyrics.Solo-parts included in the set: Vocal Flute Altosax Flugelhorn Euphonium - Trombone

£134.99Gulliver's Travels - Bert Appermont
The book Gullivers Travels (1726) by author Jonathan Swift formed the provocation for writing this composition. Even though this composition isnt a literal representation of the original story, a number of elements were still retained. The shipsdoctor Gulliver finds himself in 4 (fictive) areas, each with their own inhabitants and customs. Each part of this suite also received the name of one of these areas:I. Lilliput The enterprising Lilliputians are represented by a playful, common themein the first part.II. BrobdingnagIn the land of "Brobdingnag" Gulliver is carried off by gigantic giants, which you hear approaching with the sounds of the bassinstruments. The same theme is constantly repeated and quickened in order to increase thetension.III. LaputaLaputa is an island that floats in the air; its inhabitants are strange people with slanting heads. The dreamy, special atmosphere is especially well conveyed here.IV. The HouyhnhnmsFinally Gulliver finds himself in the land of theHouyhnhnms, where intelligent and noble horses rule over the primitive, undeveloped people (yahoos). The trumpets in the brilliant opening express the galloping horses; the gallant theme that follows (horns and trombones) symbolises the primitiveyahoos. The whole composition ends with a big finale.I intentionally tried to limit the degree of difficulty of Gullivers Travels. Despite this I think that this work can appeal to many orchestras due to the colourful orchestration (cues areprovided where needed), the simple and clear theme and the highly imaginative breeding ground of a beautiful story around which this composition is built."

Jacob's Ladder to a Crescent - Toshio Mashima
Toshio Mashima composed this work for the 40th anniversary of the concert band of the Kwansei-Gakuin University in Japan. The composition is based on the biblical story of the patriarch Jacob, who in a dream sees a ladder reaching into the sky. This story or its symbolism has inspired many artists - the rungs of the ladder representing the virtues through which man climbs during his lifetime.
