    Flight - Benjamin Yeo

Flight is a programmatic work that is divided into six short segments, each describing a different aspect of a young pilot's experience in the sky. The motor can be heard starting up. The plane finally takes off and an exciting musical journey gets underway. Breath-taking views, scary turbulence, and finally a full-fledged storm are all part of the view from above. Fortunately all goes well. Special musical effects, such as the sound of the propeller, add a sense of realism to this Flight.

    Kivgik - Carl Strommen

Meaning messenger in Inuit, Carl Strommen's piece Kivgik was inspired by the composer's observance of a large gathering of the Inuit people in Alaska. Carl has tried to emulate the sound of their drums being used to communicate between tribes. The piece also contains bold harmonic colors and driving 6/8 rhythms. There is a nice repose section in the middle of the piece that symbolizes the more solemn parts of this annual gathering or Kivgik. This multicultural piece offers many unique, cross-curriculum teaching opportunities and will be perfect at your next contest or festival performance.

Highland Celebration - Alan Lee Silva

Written with the lilt and flavor of the Scottish Highlands, this original Alan Lee Silva piece is a joyous new addition to the concert band repertoire. The pulsing 6/8 rhythms are contrasted by momentary feelings of 3/4, as the melody floats over punctuated harmonies. This piece contains contrast, with a slower middle section featuring a divine flute melody, accompanied by the sound of "bagpipe" drones in the other voices. This grand Scottishstyle melody develops to a climax before the wistful return of the main theme, and an up-tempo coda completes the piece.

Fiori (Flute Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

Fiori finds its genesis in a walk through an impressionistic garden. It expresses not only the atmosphere and mood but also tiny and grotesque scenes between the insects. The flute, as a solo instrument, plays a perfect role in this marvellous micro world. It was a challenge for the composer to integrate the sound of the flute through the "fragrance of flowers and exotic plants that fills the air".Duration: 11.45
