The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Earth, Wind & Fire was formed by jazz drummer Maurice White, whose aim was to mix various music styles to produce a unique sound. Combined with excellent song writing and fine performances this sound made Earth, Wind & Fire one of the most influential soul groups of the seventies. In subsequent decades they experienced varying success but this medley reflects the heyday of this legendary group. In his job as staff arranger with the Royal Marine Band of the Dutch Navy, Peter Kleine Schaars wrote many top class arrangements. The talent of the musicians in the band made it possible to write in such a way that they closely resembled the original works. Consequently this medley shines just like the original versions by Earth, Wind & Fire. Handel called Britain 'the ringing isle' because when he moved to London, he heard bells ringing everywhere: great bells in church towers, and handbells in some of the first private houses he visited. The sound of people 'ringing the changes' is a peculiarly British sound of celebration, and it seems a good starting point for a piece celebrating British musical life. Within The Ringing Isle, Dove incorporates some traditional change-ringing patterns, from 'Grandsire Doubles', 'Oxford Treble Bob Minor' and his own version of 'Plain Bob Major'. Handel's phrase also conjures up an image of a magical island, and so this is how Dove envisaged how it must have been to approach Britain from an ocean voyage.

Trumpet Fiesta (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Trumpet Fiesta spotlights four trumpet soloists. From the opening bars the music expresses a feeling of happiness. This swift and lively piece begins with a series of dynamic staccato passages from the soloists. The central section, in the minor key, contrasts with the beginning of the work and during this transition period there are only two solo trumpet parts. The first theme then quickly reappears before moving on to a peaceful and more melodic trio in which long and flowing melody lines allow the soloists to let the beautiful sound of the trumpet fully reveal itself. The sound pyramid then formed by the whole band leads this spectacular piece to a powerful finale. 03:12
