This three movement work by the world renowned composer Philip Sparke is based on traditional folk songs, in particular popular children's songs, from Singapore.The first movement is based on Gelang Sipaku Gelang, a well-loved folksong which has become associated with the Geylang area and is a song about community spirit and people living together in harmony. The slower second movement uses Di-Tanjung Katong, a song which is popular with childrens' choirs and third the movement uses two traditional melodies - Lenggang Kangkung which tells of the graceful swaying of watercress in the rice paddy fields and Munnaeru Vaalibaa. The haunting Scottish song arranged for voice and band. The melody to this Scottish folk song is traditional and was collected in the 1870s by Anne MacLeod. The words are by Sir Harold Boulton and tell the story of the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Uist to the Isle of Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. This arrangement was made for the RAF Massed Bands Tour 1998 and is recorded on Festival of Music 1998 Polyphonic QPRM 132D. Duration: 2.08

Songs from the Lowlands is a collection of songs from the 16th and 17th centuries from my native country The Netherlands, formerly known as The Low Countries. They are, by turns, patriotic songs by Adriaen Valerius from the time when our country was occupied by Spain, naughty love songs and a drinking song, Peeckel-Haringh. Songs from the Lowlands was written for the farewell concert of my dear friend Jim Yarnell, who has been the director of bands at The American School of The Hague for four decades. Jim conducted the premire at his final concert, April 8, 2022, and now enjoys a well-deserved retirement. Songs from the Lowlands can be performed instrumental or with choir (SATB).

£40.99Allegro Spirito from Symphony No.2 (Brass Band) Borodin arr. Harold Burgmayer
Alexander Borodin's Second Symphony in B minor dates from the years 1869-76, a time when he was also working on his enduring opera Prince Igor. Flavors of the exotic and outdoor celebration seemed to have spilled over from the opera in this brilliant sonata movement. Borodin seldom quotes Russian folk tunes, but his graceful melodic lines are permeated with the spirit of his native song, supported by iridescent harmonies and bright colors. This arrangement for brass band was premired by The Salvation Army's New York Staff Band, with Ronald Waiksnoris conducting, at Alice Tully Hall in New York City on 11 April 2001. This complete transcription of the Finale movement of Borodin's Second Symphony has an approximate duration of 6.40 minutes. To alternatively utilize the piece as an opener, a cut from bar 173 to 272 is indicated with Coda signs, reducing the piece to 4.30 seconds. £164.99Reflections on an Old Japanese Folk Song - Philip Sparke
Reflections on an Old Japanese Folk Song is based on the tune Suiryo-Bushi, which comes from the shamisen tradition and opens with two contrasting statements of the melody followed by several variations each in an own style based uponthe same tune, or sometimes only fragments of it. In one of the variants, the pentatonic scale is used. The final section is in the form of a scherzo, which eventually forms the accompaniment to a final presentation of the folk tune.

"Sea Song Fantasy" was commissioned by Symphonicity (the Symphony Orchestra of Virginia Beach) and premiered for the opening of their new concert hall in November 2007. The work features a wide variety of sea shanties in various styles, ranging from those well known melodies to more obscure songs of the sea. All are combined into an exciting work featuring virtually every instrument and family in the ensemble.
