A solo for violin (or soprano saxophone) with band, combining two Irish tunes. The Minstrel Boy is an Irish patriotic song written by Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852) and Toss the Feathers is a traditional Irish folk tune. In this version the two tunes are combined to form a solo for violin with band, also featuring some extended solo-work for the percussion section. It was featured on the RAF Massed Bands Tour 2000 and recorded on Festival of Music 2000 Polyphonic QPRM 136D and Dancing and Drumming Polyphonic QPRM 140D.Duration: 5.42

The traditional Irish folk song set for voice and band. This haunting melody tells the sad story of two Irish lovers. The boy fell in love when he saw her as she 'moved through the fair'. Despite their differing social standing they received parental permission to marry but the girl did not return. In the closing verse of the song he dreams of her moving through the fair but realises that she has, in fact, died. An arrangement of the well-known Scottish song for soprano and band. This highly popular Scottish song (subtitled A Ballad of Home) was in fact composed by a Canadian, Laura Gertrude Lemon (15 October 1866 - 18 August 1924) who lived and worked in England, with words by a Londoner Wilfred Mills (the pen name of William Alfred Braund) who never set foot in Scotland. It was first published in 1905 and has subsequently become a favourite for Scots remembering their homeland when far away from home. This arrangement is for soprano for band and was featured on the RAF Massed Bands Tour 1999 and recorded on Festival of Music 1999 Polyphonic QPRM 133D.Duration: 2.00

The haunting Scottish song arranged for voice and band. The melody to this Scottish folk song is traditional and was collected in the 1870s by Anne MacLeod. The words are by Sir Harold Boulton and tell the story of the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Uist to the Isle of Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. An arrangement of the famous Jewel Song from Gounod?€s grand opera Faust for soprano and band. Faust, a grand opera composed by the French composer Charles-Francois Gounod was first performed in 1859 but was not well received at first. It eventually became a highly popular opera but that popularity waned in the second half of the twentieth century, partly because of the cost of mounting productions. However, the Jewel Song remains a favourite showpiece for sopranos. This arrangement was featured on the RAF Massed Bands Tour 1996 and recorded on Festival of Music 1996 Polyphonic QPRM 125D.
