Erik Satie, born in Honfleur in Normandy (France) in 1866 is undoubtedly one of the most striking personalities in the history of French music. He composed in various, often quite divergent, styles. Besides light-hearted, entertaining works he also wrote several serious compositions, among which the three ballets: Parade, Rel che and Les Aventures de Mercure. However, his piano pieces, such as Trois Gymnopedies or Gnossiennes will remain his most popular compositions. Satie cooperated with almost all the great artists of his time: Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Sergei Diaghilev, Georges Braque and composers Darius Milhaud (Le Groupedes Six) and Claude Debussy. Johan de Meij made an orchestration of three short pieces by Erik Satie: I. Petit Prelude, La Mort de Mr. Mouche - II. 1ere Gymnopedie - III. Rag-Time Parade.Duration: 6.45

'La fille aux cheveux de lin' is the original French title of this piano prelude by Debussy. He wrote it in 1910 as one of a set of twelve. Michael Brand's arrangement for Concert Band is firmly established in the repertoire but now he has brought his orchestration skills to the Flexible format which allows many more ensembles to enjoy the subtlety of Debussy's most well-known miniature. Between 1908 and 1929, Henry Fillmore composed a series of fifteen novelty pieces featuring the trombone section with band. These became collectively known as "The Trombone Family," with names and subtitles connecting them in sort of a musical genealogy. The three most popular family members, "Lassus Trombone," "Miss Trombone," and "Shoutin' Liza Trombone" join together in a whimsical way for "A Trombone Family Reunion," along with some "shirttail relatives" depicted by famous trombone excerpts from the symphonic repertoire. Included are quotations from "Blue Bells Of Scotland," "Symphony No. 4" by Tchaikovsky, "Tannhauser Overture," "Second Hungarian Rhapsody," "Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Ride of the Valkyries," "Turkey In The Straw," and a few other surprises. Reflections is a musical portrayal of the people and moments in our lives which shape and change us. Musical elements from various sources are woven into a rich tapestry of sounds and colors that show the full expressive range of the band. Perfect for contest and festivals! Reflections by Robert Langenfeld, was commissioned by a consortium (alumni/friends/family/UCM Bands/ CTS Pubs) for Dr. Russell Coleman in celebration of his 90th birthday and his service as director of bands at the University of Central Missouri (CMSU) for 32 years. Langenfeld was given guidelines for the composition which included a clarinet soli (Coleman is a clarinetist), excerpts from "Dance Prelude" (commissioned by Dr. Coleman and the UCM Phi Mu Alpha chapter, written by Claude T. Smith for the CMSU (UCM) Band in 1978), the UCM Alma Mater and the UCM fight song, "Go Mules." This work was premiered on June 17, 2018 by the Warrensburg Community Band, under guest conductor, Dr. Anthony Pursell, at the 2018 Missouri Bandmasters Association Summer Convention at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, MO. Dr. Russell Coleman has been the conductor for the Warrensburg Community Band since 1985. Duration: 5.30

Zion Hears the Watchmen Singing (Zion hrt die Wchter singen) is the fourth of seven movements of Bach's cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme ('Awake, calls the voice to us'), BWV 140, also known as Sleepers Wake. It is regarded as one of his most mature and popular sacred cantatas. It is written in the style of a chorale prelude, with the phrases of the chorale, sung as a cantus firmus by the tenors (or by the tenor soloist), entering intermittently against a famously lyrical melody played in this arrangement in unison principally by the woodwinds. Bach composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig for the 27th Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on 25 November 1731. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Six miniatures based on animals from the Japanese 'Junishi'. Zodiac Dances was commissioned by the Izumiotsu City Band, Osaka, Japan to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Sparke had previously written the piece, Prelude to a Celebration for the band, and in composing a new piece for their 50th anniversary wanted to personalise it to reflect the band's history. He chose to write a set of six dance-miniatures based on the decades following the band's foundation and the equivalent signs from the Japanese 'Junishi'. During the piece, all aspects of true musicianship come to the surface. Energetic playing, phrasing, melodic music making, technique and a spectacular finale make this work a perfect test or concert work! Duration: 11.00

Originally commissioned for The Memorial Church, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and The Harvard University Choir, this familiar Easter hymn is introduced with a chorale prelude of fanfare, power, and delicacy, typical of John Rutter's magnificent compositions. Arranged for combined Chorus and Concert/Wind Band, the piece may be performed equally well with Band alone.
